Thanks for this - clear and concise. Can’t believe that I managed to get it done so quickly and without any drama!! Well done.

Thanks for this. I wasn't setting up the wan interface correctly on my router. Instead just giving it a static route to the modem.

Super useful video, thanks. I was going to buy a new router so I don't have to reprogram all my smart devices every time I change ISP (lighting, heating thermostat, speakers, TV, laptops and phones), and also to improve Plusnet's shady wifi signal. In 6 weeks I'll switch from Plusnet to Virgin anyway. Was going to get the TP-Link AC2800 Router so I’m future-proofed for different kinds of internet/ISP, which I presume means I need to use the new Virgin superhub in modem mode, so thanks for helpful instructions here.

So, will it be more simple to set up the the TP-Link and reprogram all my devices to it now (while still on Plusnet), and just switch the input into the TP link from plusnet’s DSL to the Virgin set us as a modem, or to wait to switch to the new router when virgin arrives and set the whole lot up all up at once? Basically, is switching input into the router extra faff?

Thanks a lot :-)

Brilliant!
About to do this with mine but really struggled to change settings and save and apply them on my hub3.
I changed to good old internet explorer (ending soon) instead of chrome and BINGO worked first time
No idea if that's an odd thing to happen or not?

Geek question .. Does the SSID from the Hub pass across to the new router and if not, is it possible to configure the new router to show the Virgin SSID to save having to connect all devices with the new one??

Hi have you any recommendations of what router (cheapish) would be best to use now please.

thank you for this, very clear video. I have just one question, does this mean when changing the WAN settings that you no longer need a username and password? Does Virgin just not need this? I'm used to getting a username and password from the ISP

Why not just get a gateway? I've always used gateways since they have the modem and router built into 1 device. I find using separate modem and router more of a inconvenience since they take up more space as you're pretty much doubling the space required and the whole customisable settings benefits confuses me as my gateway has a lot of customisation options. As far as I'm aware you don't lose anything from having a gateway instead of 2 separate devices so am I missing something here? I am somewhat leaning towards having a separate modem and router when I upgrade my internet and switch providers however I am a little curious what is the power consumption difference between a gateway and having separate modem and router? It probably won't make much difference but it's something I've wondered about for a few days now.

Hi, I’m wanting a new router for my Virgin thing but I need stronger security when I search the web, which Router would you recommend?

I've got a hub 4 and decided that the WiFi wasn't up to scratch so I bought some amazon eero routers. They synced up fine and everything was great. I decided to take the advice from everyone and put the virgin router into modem mode. Did so and got the solid green light indicating modem mode and did I have any WiFi? Of course I bloody didn't! Reset the virgin router, tried again the next day...still the bloody same!
The eero help desk recommended I disable the 2.4 and 5 gigahertz bandwidths and it worked 💪
So far...
You could cut the atmosphere in my house with a knife.
No phones? No plugs, no alexa devices?
I was a dead man walking.

Would having a second router have an impact on the speed and bandwidth? Great video btw!

The internet needs more straight forward videos like this. 👍👍👍

Can you give any brief advantages to this procedure? Thank you.

Hi - I have the Superhub 2ac and an ASUS RT-AC51U dual band wifi router to provide wifi to devices around the house - (hub is connected to router with ethernet cable and router connected to PC)
The hub us not on modem Mode - everything still seems to work, what are the benefits of Modem Mode, if it's all working anyway ?

Im just about to recieve my hub 5 for 1 gig, replacing the hub 3 my question is I have homeplugs going to another room because im unable to use a long cable directly to the router. the homeplug setup is fine for me however what i was wondering is can i repurpose the hub 3 to this room and use it for wifi connection only as i need the 5ghz band for connecting a vr headset. If i can how would that setup work ? my room homeplug has two ethernet ports i can use, one is already hooked up to my pc, my vr headset is pico 4 and i want to use the 5ghz band wifi on the hub 3 so i can use virtual desktops pc vr setup. so knowing this do I just have to disable the dhcp on the router and plug in an ethernet cable in the second homeplug port. Or would it be more practical to switch the ethernet cable i have connected to the pc onto the hub 3 and have the pc ethernet coming off the hub 3. But before any of these can be answered i need to know if its just the dhcp i need to turn off or if i need to do some other thing to make the router only work as a wifi and ethernet hub?.

One thing Im confused about is before modem mode should you turn off DHCP for the new router to do it or does router get dhcp from VM modem, cause iv done it like the video and online games jult quick palse and go again every 10 seconds
