Back in 2014 after the success of Godzilla, Universal announced a prequel to the 1933 film called "Skull Island". A year later, the project would move to WB and cross over with Godzilla in the new MonsterVerse and the rest is history. This was shown as concept footage of the ill fated film

This Kong looks so powerful, like a “true combatant to Godzilla…” Especially with the massive thunderstorm surrounding him. Really makes you wonder how things could have gone in an alternate timeline lol.
