The fact that this was 2005 is just insane. The CGI looks absolutely incredible. No doubt one of the high points in the industry. Weta is awesome.

Love Jack Black’s character in this scene. No fear, just anger. After losing the camera he believed it was all in vain. He and his film crew would die for nothing. Great actor, great movie

The lack of an overly dramatic combat score, just the sounds of a eerie ambient, makes this so much more memorable and impactfull.

The guy who gets eaten alive by the leeches traumatized me for a long long time. The way he tried to protect his dead friend, only to get killed, his scream echoing. Horrifying.

Jack Black showing us why he's the dragon warrior

The fact that they didn’t give the bugs any super exaggerated features or silly monsters sound effects makes it that much more believable and creepy

The only time where Jack Black's isn't playing himself and actually feels like a different character.

I love how Jack Black’s character is dominating all these bugs and the one Crab bug keeps coming back just to get its ass kicked more and more…

That one guy getting tossed around and torn apart by the giant crabs always gives me chills.

I just love how Jack Black went to kung fu mode to the bugs. But I hate how Andy Serkis died. It gives me the creeps

Bruce’s redemption here is criminally underrated. He’s only an actor who folds like a lawn chair when they first encounter dinosaurs on the island, being too scared to even be near them. But when push comes to shove he ends up becoming a real version of the swashbuckling heroes he used to play, swinging from a vine with a Tommygun to save the day.

Jack Black's acting in this scene is phenomenal.
You can literally see him turning fear into desperation and then into anger
And that badass fighting also

I know people critique the film for its length, particularly stemming from the first maybe 30 to 45 minutes while they’re in New York and out at sea, but to me, it really adds to the tone of the film and properly introducing the characters for the most part. Particularly contributing to the suspenseful buildup of them venturing towards the unknown, and the impact of what is found on the island is just as significant to the on screen characters, as it is to the audience watching. I also just love how cool they made New York look from the time era they were portraying, which looked like the 1920’s to 1930’s. We also don’t see Jack Black take on too many roles like this, if ever. So it was a real treat to see his range as an actor, which to me, was an exceptional performance done by him.

I just love this film so much, and the video game based on the movie is also a hidden gem.

*Therapist* : "Do, where did your fear of bugs began?"
*Me* : "It all started in 2005"

Think we can all agree his scene made us appreciate how small bugs are in our world 😂

the best part of this scene is that they behave like actual bugs instead of movie monsters

no slowly walking up and looking intimidating, just swarming from all directions trying to get at this new source of food
