This movie came out 16(!!!) years ago and the effects still hold up perfectly. It looks better than most movies nowadays. How is that even possible??

I love how the V Rex politely waits for Ann to turn dramatically around until she sees him. Good guy V rex.

2:08 I really like how realistic the V-rex is. I know all the creatures and King Kong were all CGI, but in this scene were the V-rex is looking at Ann, it looks like they have a real dinosaur

Personally I think this version of Skull island is better than the 2017’s version.

There's so much to love about this scene:

1. How the foetodon just bounces when the V-rex eats its buddy.
2. How every inch of the jungle is alive with creatures.
3. How the v-rex's instincts compel it to chase Ann, but simultaneously won't allow it to drop its food.
4. How Naomi Watts is just booking like Veronica Campbell in her bare feet through the entire prolonged jungle sequence. What a trouper! What a committed actress! She owns every millisecond of her interaction with the CGI characters too and sells the whole thing. Brilliant!

This version of Kong is second only to the 1933 original and beats the Toho, Monsterverse, and all other remake versions in my book.

I remember seeing that giant centipede in cinema as a kid and nearly shitting my pants. Last year a centipede about 30 cm long made it into my house and was literally crawling just outside my bedroom door, and I almost stepped on it in the dark before recognising a suspicious mass of shadow on the floor. Thank god I turned on the light, that thing was a BEAST. Classic Australia lol

0:17 For anyone wanting to know what the Foetodon was eating, it’s the corpse of a Ligocristus meaning “harmless hoe-crest” is the only hadrosaur on skull island it measures 26-34 feet in length and stands 16 feet tall, it is perhaps the most favoured food sources for all predators on the island.

This Skull Island was a lot scarier then the one in the Monsterverse

I love how at 1:07 you can see the other foetodon was scared seeing his comrade dying & just books it

I love the attention to detail in the animals' reactions, like when the foetodon at around 0:32 has a hint of surprise at seeing her. Or when the centipedes are just curiously walking around without immediately jumping at people like a facehugger

Peter Jackson really did this movie justice. Also the creature designers

The scene of her turning around to the V-rex being there always gives me massive Jurassic Park vibes and I love it.

I like how the other Foetodon was like, "Fuck this, I'm out of here!"

I wonder if the Foetodons were intentionally designed to look like the first ever reconstructions of dinosaurs, such as Megalosaurus and Iguanodon from the 1850's

Why would he even go for her when he's literally carrying around food

0:13 that island is the last place I'd want to walk around barefoot.

For anyone that finds it strange or unrealistic for the Vastatosaurus to chase Ann while it has a much larger and more nutritious meal in its mouth, all you need to know is the ecology of Skull Island and then you'll immediately understand why. Notice it doesn't drop the Foetodon to chase Ann, it continues to try and gulp its kill down while trying to incapacitate Ann. Skull Island was on the verge of destruction and a total extinction event for all its inhabitants, the island keeps getting smaller and ecological pressures affect the fauna rather heavily. The 3 Vastatosaurusi in the movie were confirmed to be inbred as a result of these ecological pressures. A gargantuan predator like that would need to eat a lot to keep itself going, and meals aren't easy to come by on Skull Island. Thus the juvenile Vastatosaurus sees Ann as a quick and easy snack, a bonus desert for its Foetodon main course.

The only thing that's all that unrealistic is that the Vastatosaurus drops the head and forelimbs of the Foetodon while trying to get it down its throat and continues to chase Ann instead of stopping and recovering the much larger and more nutritious hunk of meat it dropped. Though you could make the argument that it was going to go back for that piece of meat after it caught Ann, but that isn't what we see in the film, they walk off in the opposite direction.

Out of all the versions of Skull Island over the years, *THIS* one frightened me the most. It just shows how absolutely primal everything is, Kill or be Killed. Devour or be Devoured. It also depicts how insignificant us as humans are when put in a situation where colossal prehistoric creatures can easily annihilate you without a thought. You can tell I fucking love this movie ❤️.
