John Boyega gives me Denzel vibes in this trailer, especially his voice. And the movie looks just like John Q. I can't wait to watch.

Coming from a family of veterans this just breaks my heart to no end. How our service men and women are treated. Although there is controversy as to if they are 'truly' fighting for 'us' or big business, or killing innocent their sacrifices are real and their stories matter. Prayers for those who've been harmed and or murdered unjustly around the world. You are not forgotten. We are all suffering together.

For anyone wondering the true story.
It's of Brian Easley, a veteran who was stationed in Iraq, after honarary discharge, had been living off his disability paycheck . The paycheck amount was a "whopping" 892$, which didn't come for a month as those payments had been deducted elsewhere..
He had a tuition assistance (a career support program from the govt, he enrolled, so that he could find a job) owed to the government, which had a clause that any dropping out of courses or failure to attend a class would mean in, repayment of the money automatically from the paycheck he received from VA (Department of Veteran Affairs).
With his state of mental condition suffering from PTSD, it was bound to happen where he had dropped out in between.
They would send him warning letters, but none would reach him as he had been homeless and kept shifting his stay.
Everything went down the drain, after his futile attempts to get a clear response from the VA department, on his missing paycheck. Desperate for money to prevent starvation and being homeless, he decided to blow up a Wells Fargo bank and hold the employees hostage.
He walked into the bank with a backpack, claiming he had a bomb.
He had no intention of killing any employees nor take the banks money. His only demand was his 892$ paycheck be given back to him.

At the time, he had been staying in a motel that charged him 25$ for a day, and had run out of money. Long story short : he was extremely polite, co-operative with the negotiator and even with the bank employees he held hostage he was apologetic for keeping them in this situation.
Negotiation moves neatly, he is cooperative and calm and release hostages.
This is when a swat sniper (Dennis Ponte) took the decision in his hand of taking out Brian, as he had a clean shot of him.
Brian drops dead as Ponte fires.
(Tactical team had the authority to take a split second decision irrespective of how the progress was goin on between the negotiator and Brian)
Once the hostages were evacuated, all they find inside Brian's bag is a Bible, some papers, and a small machete, among other incidentals. (Easley had never taken out the knife nor mentioned having it, can be assumed it was for self protection). On his body, they find a wallet, a broken cross pendant, and an electronic device which was assumed as the detonator, was infact a tool for detecting hidden listening devices). There was no bomb.

Sad world.

Well the fact that this is based on a true story dealing with the Dept of Veterans Affairs isn’t surprising in the least

As one who served in the Marines it hurts me to the core to see one of my brothers in arms suffer like this. Goddamn the VA for not doing their job for our vets. Goddamn them.

As a vet with a rated disability this movie hit me hard. I had to stay in the theater until everyone else had left.

This movie feels like a depiction of my life right now. I have been unfairly discontinued of my income protection, my house is up for sale, I have spoke with many lawyers, no one cares. This is the absolute truth of this movie. I would equally die if it brought attention to the issue that I am facing. Totally relate.

I always thought John Boyega looked like a young Denzel since I saw him in Attack The Block. This movie looks just as interesting as John Q. Probably just as suspenseful too... Also, Michael K Williams. Man. I gotta see this for him alone.

I really hate that brother had to resort to such extreme measures and I hate that we lost Michael K. Williams such a pure, gentle, honest soul ❤️
