In a nutshell: King Carolus, the most brilliant strategist of his time fought against Poland-Lithuania and Russian and beat the shit out of them. They kicked Polish out of the war woth a couple outstanding victories, even managing to beat the Russian hammer AND the Polish anvil in one battle. After continously marching eastwards and kicking Russian soldiers, the tsar just scorched the land so the Swedes can't live off it. After that, the Swedes marched south in hope of allying with the cossaks but were intercepted and defeated at Poltava. King Carolus escaped and fled to Ottoman teritorry
