The Battle of Poltava, which was part of the Great Northern War, began on July 8, 1709. Peter the Great and his Russian army routed the Caroleans on a battlefield in modern day Ukraine. Charles XII, also known as Carolus Rex, was defeated by the larger Russian force.

Poltava is probably my favorite song from when sung in Swedish, I’ve been wanting to see it get a official lyric video and you guy’s finally delivered so thank you all!!!

My wife is from Poltava. It's an amazing city. There's a monument of valor to the Swedish warriors there, erected on the 200th anniversary of the battle by the Russian imperial government.

I like this version because at around 2:00 the voice says "din tid är här"(your time has come), which is a callback to the song carolus rex, where he says "min tid är här"(my time is now)
So it sounds like the tsar is mocking carolus with his own words

Tack till Sabaton för hela Carolus Rex plattan, den är så otroligt stark och får verkligen historien att komma till liv. Poltava, Konungens Likfärd och Ruina Imperii är hjärteskärande.

A major reason why the Swedish army suffered such a heavy loss in this battle was because General Lewenhaupt quarreled with General Rehnskiöld. When the injured Carolus Rex appointed General Rehnskiöld as commander during the Battle of Poltava, Lewenhaupt was furious. Rehnskiöld expected Lewenhaupt to obey him during the battle, which he demonstrably did not do on several occasions, which contributed greatly to the Swedes taking a beating. In addition, Lewenhaupt's march from the Baltics to Poltava was a major disaster, causing widespread starvation and exhaustion among the soldiers.
