I have always heard this song growing up, liked it, but thought the lyrics were a little crazy and didn't know the story behind them until people started talking about it after Home Free did this 50th-anniversary song with Mclean and brought it back to life. I love it!

Home Free and Don McLean did such an amazing job with this iconic song! You mentioned the lip syncing—they are all lip syncing to record the video, but it’s all their vocals, including McLeans. The vocals were recorded prior to the taping of the video components.

Home Free showed great respect to Don in this!! So nice to see each one get to shine!! This song is kind of a toe tapper until you Really listen to the lyrics! Lots of history reflected in this song from 59 - 71 when this was released!! Richie Valens, Big Bopper & Buddy Holly. Music evolved, Beetles Helzer Skelter, Charles Manson, landing on moon, JFK & Bobbie Kennedy assassinations, , fallout shelters, Kent State! Great reaction!! You ROCK!!
