Wow I think this is groundbreaking info for me. I think a lot of the time we could *feel out* the edit at the cost of time and trial and error but having a clear guideline like this will streamline that whole process.

These are some really gold nuggets here. Any time I’ve tried to write or tell a story I’ve always just focused on the plot but never let emotion build or characters breathe and develop and I can understand why in films I like these character arcs have always been so pivotal to supplement that plot. So good!

This was really helpful. I’ve honestly never thought about it like that in terms of too many emotional scenes or too many plot scenes in a row. But you’re right, that IS how you lose your audience. And you’re right, this applies to all forms of visual media. I’m gonna pay closer attention to that from now. Might have to go back over older work to see if I find the same thing happening there.
