Feelings, Pictures, and Ideas: A very simple theory of why good stories are good

Hello and welcome to another instalment of "Exurb1a lectures you on matters he himself knows nothing about".

I've been on my deathbed with flu for about the last ten days. As a little survival tactic I started watching The Leftovers. And pinch my ears and call me Rupert, it's the best example of feelings, pictures, and ideas I've ever seen. Do yourself a favour and check it out—you won't be disappointed.

The Man From Earth (2007) is a movie that is entirely centred on Ideas: One guy telling his academic friends the story of his life. It's a great movie if you're just in the mood to think about a crazy fictional life of a man that has been alive for 10, 000+ years. Give it a watch. (Not the sequal of 2017 though, that movie was garbage).

I had no idea it had a sequel. It was such a great, simplistic story. One location, no real action, just dialogue driven, with really good, believable acting. I've always wanted to write, and I used to write years ago, but I'm kind of stuck in my own misery, and wondering what the point of ANYTHING is. Although I have to admit, I found this channel at the right time...or it found me.

I just found this channel two weeks ago, and my mom just died this week. This channel has really helped me cope, and try to make some sense of this nonsense. Until you actually lose a parent, you think you'll have them until they hit their 80's. She had recently turned 72. Not a spring chicken by any means, Still, not someone you expect to lose, without a warning, at least. This channel, the speaker, the writing, all come together in a perfect ego-splintering video. It helps to put a lot into perspective, when you lose one of the people who gave you that perceptive in the first place. The person primarily responsible for your nourishment, your language skills, your sense of humor, and 50% of your DNA. A knock at my door, a thirty second conversation, not believing any of it to be real. Even when you walk into the funeral home for the "viewing", and hide in the coffee room, a sobbing mess, seeing less sense in the world. Even after the funeral, after seeing the casket brought to the pre-dug hole, just waiting to be your mom's new home, until the coffin either gives way to plant growth, or goes flying through the universe, after the sun had gone supernova, and sends this planet shooting across space,

There might not be much sense to this whole "living" thing, but channels like this help you to hold onto what little reality actually exists. Over a million subscribers, and I just now found this channel. I haven't come across a YouTube channel whose videos I've just devoured in years. Thank you, turtle man. Keep em coming, please. Here's a like and a subscription. They're all I have...for now.
