I always felt Dooku knew Obi Wan had more in him than Obi Wan himself was led to believe.

Dooku saw Obi Wan like a grandson which is interesting because he doesn't like Anakin (the great grandson). However, when you think of it, it makes sense because the difference in opinion of two generations that far apart can be too great.
