AI is great for starting projects, but loses context with very large code bases with complex logic. Ive been using Cursor for a while now and it can certainly get quite annoying with some of the suggestions. You do have to be careful and pay close attention to what Cursor is wanting to change because it will wreck any and all logic you have in place. However, my favorite feature is the inline AI or Crtl+k. The ability to quickly grab snippets of code and add other files for added context has its uses.
The downside to AI in programming that I foresee is that it will create lazy programmers making them lose valuable skills related to syntax. Thats not to be confused with the losing underlying fundamentals of computer science in general, if you know you know. But rather getting so comfortable with use AI, as a crutch, that when its taken away and all you have is your IDE and your brain...you will struggle. A good programmer still needs to learn and continue to use references and documentation outside of AI and use AI as a guide rather than it actually being the programmer.

It saves time when you need a rough starting framework to work with. It also saves time if you have very specific requirements, like writing a specific function. Anyway, it can do laborious tasks for programmers, which enables human coders to focus more on creative thoughts and overall architecture. I would say this thing is still far from being able to replace human programmers; instead, it is really a Swiss army knife for programmers to reach unprecedentedly high productivity and reduce eyestrain.

Try hitting CMD+I to try the composer mode. The composer is their "New" feature that allows for multi file editing in one shot. I've had mixed results with it being less reliable/buggy in some instances. But it's new, so probably being rapidly improved.

Seems to be an unpopular opinion but I'm not that impressed with it. Gameplay is very simple and I don't think you would need a whole day to code that. And even if you did, you would learn so much more and make the game so much better IMHO. Still might be useful for small boilerplate, even though I'm a bit skeptic😅

I've still not tried it. I use various LLMs to code. I like to paste bits from one into another, and I tend to use a lot of space, because my prompts are usually huge. So it's not for me I think. Always nice to watch you though.

Cursor is a great tool. Buts its just that - a tool. Not a replacement. I view it like this:
Spell check replaced our dependency on having a dictionary on our desk.
YouTube replaced our need for buying books get an introduction into a particular subject (Not a replacement for books, just the intro)
AI is replacing stack overflow (to an extent)

I do not believe we, as developers, will be replaced by AI. It’s just another tool in our growing arsenal of tools.
