Показать описание

While working on a recent prop project, Adam realizes that he needed better lighting for his workshop bench, and embarks on building a custom light rig for illuminating his builds. Using off-the-shelf parts like an affordable LED light panel, Adam wires up this versatile bench lamp that can be positioned precisely where he needs it!

"There's no one right way to do this." My first boss used to say that. Usually followed by, "There's a whole bunch of wrong ways, though, and that's one of 'em."

I love that these videos have no music, I feel like too many build videos have music in the background, usually adding nothing to the video except distracting the viewer from the build.

Adam: a note I've picked up when splicing wires like you're doign with the power supply, I always cut the wires positive and negative staggered, that way when I solder them and heat shrink them the two joints aren't side by side, and makes the overall form more narrow and less likely to bind or rub against one another either, though your loc-line has plenty of room inside of it.

One of my favorite things about Adam is that he has this crazed childlike energy and he shows his dumb mistakes. Always brightens my day. I can't tell you how many times I've used Adam's build videos to calm me down after panic attacks or when I feel unmotivated and depressed. Thank you for being awesome Mister Savage, don't ever change.

Rather than machining out of Delrin, you can just buy a 3/4” NPT floor flange. They have four bolt holes which you could use U bolts to clamp onto a C clamp, or mount permanently if you prefer to a work surface.

I don’t even have a workspace. But god damn, I would watch Adam build IKEA furniture

I love the fact that when you look at the light on Amazon, all the other bits show up under suggested buys!

Adam is the Bob Ross of engineering. These one day build videos are so fun to watch and the outcome is always amazing

Thank you for the honesty of including your mistakes in the video; we've all made them. I also appreciate the acknowledgement that there are many ways/options to arrive at similar results. Keep up the good work!

I liked this build well enough to model my own on it. Instead of armature wire, I used a doubled length of 8 gauge copper wire. I left the wire insulating sheath in place. I created a "nut" for the 3/4" NPT plastic fitting from a copper pipe fitting hiding in my plumbing junk drawer and soldered the 8-gauge copper stiffener to the "nut" so that that end was secure. I then drilled an appropriately sized hole in my workbench to secure the lamp. I modified the flange on the lamp end and used the shoe mount to secure the lamp to the arm. This light supplements the fluorescent ring-lamp with magnifier to improve the lighting on the bench. 4600K is the color temperature that matches that of the fluorescent lamp, but a higher temperature that the LED can provide is a good supplement to the LED lamps that I use on the microscope in that area of the bench. So far, I'm quite pleased with this idea.

Nice to see a one day build that is much more of a DIY type video that viewers could feasibly follow along with. Love that he gave prices as he went through the materials so a viewer can quickly assess if the project is something they can afford. Still not something a broke college student like me could do but still appreciated!

I'd Dremel out a little channel on the bottom of the base so the wire isnt smushed against whatever surface you choose to mount it to

Pro-tip for re-doing wires through pipes/walls when you've made a mistake: don't just pull out the wire - tie the string to it so that when you pull it out the string is in the pipe/wall when you need to put the wire through again.

Adam Savage is one of the most intelligent, interesting people on television. Thanks for being so entertaining and also teaching me something in the process. Being entertained while learning is something I really have been lacking since my hero Mr. Rogers passed away. Adam I hope you continue your programs. Thank you

i think a really stellar idea would be to use a led ring light in place of these panel lights, you could even go as far as to mount a magnifying glass in the center if you so chose, love the idea Adam! definitely need to make something similar!

3/4" npt Floor Flange from the plumbing section will help anyone who needs an off-the-shelf mount.

There is something so satisfying about that "pop" sound when the ends connect.

My solution is to wear a LED camping headlamp, so wherever I'm looking there's light. It's great when model making or working underneath a car.

Thanks for all the great stuff Adam!
