Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Miniature Shipping Container!

preview_player
Показать описание

Adam's been wanting to build this kit for years: a decal set that allows him to make a 1/10 scale shipping container like the 40-foot ones that move freight around the world on massive container ships. Adam's scaled-down version will be four feet long, and make for an awesome bench and storage box in the workshop. And of course it sits on casters!

To whomever has been editing the air stapler assembly clips to give us all the staple hits: your time and effort is much appreciated.

I think the fact that everyone is surprised that you didn’t make a real one just shows how good this looks from a distance, we looked at the thumbnail and thought it was real.

I'm more surprised that he didn't make shipping container style doors for both ends to get to things stored in it from both ends

4:09 - standing next to ladder, repeatedly throwing things upward toward shelf... ultimately stands on tablesaw.

Having these videos on in the background while I’m working at home feels like hanging out with a friend while we’re each working on our own projects. The background noise of power tools, occasionally glancing at each other’s work and chatting. It helps a lot while being quarantined and working from home and feeling lonely in a quiet house. Thanks for keeping me sane, Adam!

Does everyone else want to see him build a 'real' one out of steel?

What an awesome storage bench! Tip for the squeegy you had there to stop it from scratching a decal get some 1" masking tape wrap it around the blade end half inch on half off then you have a softer flap to lay the decal down with. This is how I put the decals on commercial aircraft and they can't be scratched or damaged. Keep up the good work I hope to have a workshop like yours soon 👌🇦🇺

Its amazing how it actually looks like it’s corrugated. Sort of an optical illusion!

Me a few months ago: "Wow! I can't believe Adam could hurt his hand like that! He looks like he's always super safe in these videos! At least he probably won't do anything dumb in the shop like that again!"

Adam at 4:23: *Stands on a wobbly table saw to put an item on a shelf, even though there is a ladder less than three feet away*

Never change Adam. Never change.

I wish he had cut the second end sticker in half and made a barn door type thing so the end opened up like a real shipping container and he would still have access to the inside.

Young me couldn't even line up Stickers on LEGO, and here is Adam lining up huge Stickers like this.

Fortunately now I know that Stickers on LEGOs are the worst anyway. :D

I thought he was going to build an ACTUAL miniature with metal, hinges, and levers lol

This made me smile, just something about a tiny shipping container made me happy.

My dad was a hobbiest wood worker. Watching that glue running down the inside of that box would have made him go nuts. Even something as simple as a storage box ment days of careful planning, cutting, sanding and screwing. He was great at what he did. I told him once he was not building pianos and he said it doesnt matter, it might as well be. If you cannot take pride everything you do, then you shouldn't be doing it. He lived in a different time where nothing was thrown away and whatever you made reflected on you. His craftsmanship still stands out even though he is gone now. Many of the wooden boxes he made are still around or were bought during a clean out and marvled the man that made them. Many have been reperposed and will be used long after I am gone.

I started watching this video about 3 hours ago and then my new monitor mount was delivered. In the process of setting it up, I accidentally ripped the cord of my speakers I have been using for about 10 years. So, I go and get the backup pair I have and I plug them in and start hearing this horrible buzzing noise. I at this point am very frustrated because the monitor mount was not the easiest to put together in the world and I am very tired. This leads me to be even more frustrated that I have no PC speakers to listen to this video on. I got so annoyed I got my wire strippers and some electrical tape and fixed the speaker I had ripped the wire of just to plug it in and have the sound persist! At this point, I had decided it was my computer and went for a full restart. I open my browser and pick the first video I see to test the audio and low and behold it works! I can finally go back and finish the tested video. To my surprise I start the video back up and what do I hear? The annoying buzzing noise again! I by this time finally realize the issue the whole time had been the audio in the video. I have to say that now looking back at myself twenty minutes ago gives me quite a laugh. I hope my tale leaves you laughing as well. Also, if Adam or anyone else on the tested crew sees this, thanks for the great videos recently (including this one).

I'm so glad Adam is still willing to do this filming style. It makes me feel like I'm just hanging out with my dad in his workshop.

21:02 that gave me massive amounts of nostalgia from when i was apprenticing as a carpenter. The mumbling of numbers followed by the smile was something i always saw in my teacher. That's the mark of a builder who's truly enjoying the project
