Thanks for your help I find it really frustrating sometimes and I honestly think I have a terrible text book. But I thank you for taking the time to help me. Much appreciated. :)

hmm, different as in answers or different as in method.
This is pretty standard stuff the rules set out at the beginning are facts so they cant be different.
If you could give me an example of what your book says I would be happy to explain it.
use sqrt(16) for square root symbol.

They tell you to completely leave plus questions alone and to do nothing? Also the division one where you did sqrt of 4/25, you did it literally backwards to how my book explains it. Thanks for you reply.

Nice video but the last example was no simpler than it began. Perhaps a better example?

Also if you haven't had a look already I have a video on GCSE Exam questions on surds, I will add an annotation to link it and I will also add a link in the description above.

With the plus questions if you can simplify each part to a particular multiple of the same square root then you can add them as i demonstrated otherwise you can not combine them, this is one of the reasons for simplifying surds in the first place so you can see if you can combine them further.
Their is usually more than one specific way to solve most maths questions but they are usually rooted (forgive the pun) in the same rules, hopefully what I said made some sense.
