Self Heating Lunch Boxes

In Japan, they have a unique solution for lunch boxes. So the Japanese figured out how to serve a hot meal on the train. By simply pulling a string, the box heats up the meal, and in just a few minutes, it’s ready to eat.

Nobody realizing how old that is. I mean there is literally an old Japanese anime that brings that up. It is literally almost as old as my father.

They been doing that with mre's since 80s

It is in fact used in MREs. Difference being that you add water in MREs to activate the heating element. It also can get hot enough to cause 2nd degree burns.

Actually there is water and a pouch of calcium carbide and a string is tied up with the pouch and when one pulls the string, the pouch is torn and it poured into water and it emits heat. It needs a lot of safety precautions while handling. In India we use this method to ripe mangoes.

This technology has been used in US MREs for decades.

I also heard at one time they had the technology to make an entire city heat up to where every food was cooked to a crisp within seconds😮

Having the technology is one thing. Modifying it to make it cheaper and not requiring to add water is another thing.

Using this technology in the military is doable because you can charge the government an arm and a leg. Making it commercially cheap enough for common use is a completely different thing.

If you go to any convenient store in Japan, there are dozens of self heating products cheap enough for ordinary civilians to consume.

When it comes to portable food industry, Japan is many steps ahead. The lunch box industry is diverse and highly competitive.

Bento meals have many tiers. Bullet train station bento selections are the top tier.

When I fly out of Tokyo, I buy these luxury bentos and share them on flight with people around me. I bring instant miso soup from home.

I make friends really quickly. 😊😊😊😊😊

I'm sure this is VERY environment friendly.

This is pure chemistry, which could perhaps be used in the military or for emergency rations.

It should be avoided for everyday use!

The ratio of minimum meal to vast amounts of plastic and chemical waste is unacceptable!
