We throw around the term "white privilege" when it's really Anglo privilege. How many Europeans, especially those from Central and Eastern Europe Anglicized their names, didn't pass on their heritage, the language, history, and cooking of their native land in order to assimilate? Even their practice of Christianity was different. The American South was heavily Protestant, Southern Europeans Roman Catholic and Eastern Europeans more likely Eastern Orthodox.

There’s a saying in Italy that Africa begins south of Rome. The northern Italians in the past considered the southerners as inferior and the southerners didn’t like the northerners. My father’s family is Sicilian and Calabrese.

We turned white when southern Italians quit working in the fields. Once they started working indoors at factories and mines, their tans went away 😅😂😅

My dad.. grandparents immigrated from southern Italy Pulgia ..to Canada in 1951 They endured a lot of racism the first years but it got better years later. Esp in the workforce. My dad and grandfather had a trade but were given the worse jobs. They told me so many negative experiences that they had to go through.

I'm going to suggest you look into the Griko people. If you're Southern Italian, there's a high percentage you have Greek roots. They had their own struggle and were Latinized.

The same thing ("Germans aren't white!") was said in the US when the catholic Germans arrived in drove. So it's clear that have not the racial importance that you attribute to it. Have you never seen dogs marking their territory? Men do the same, saying nastiness.

There were lynchings of Italians all over the South?? Italians did not migrate to Southern states, they tended to stay in large cities in the North and Midwest. New Orleans might be an exception.
