The “Italian Americans” I’ve heard are mostly descended from Southern Italian Immigrants (Sicily, Calabria).

Absolutely false. First of all, most of the immigration from the near East to Italy was suffocated by the massive emigration from the Italian countryside to the cities after the fall of Rome. The gene pool of modern Italy its 98% the same as it was in imperial times (as stated by many genetic tests and papers) and by genetic proximity Sicilians and other southern Italians match mostly with Greeks and Balkanites, not Arabs or levantines. That idea of southern Italians being moors or Africans or even partially black Africans it’s a racist myth promoted by American nativists in the 19th and early 20th century. The biggest mistake of all it’s this idea of southern/northern division. The north and the south have been separated by many things (industrial and political development, social change and conservatism, urban development and trade routes) but never for something like that. Matteo Bocelli it’s from Tuscany (as all of his family) just to give an example.

There aren't many differences between northern and southern Italy today, where do you see these differences?

Not true. Northern Italians have germanic ancestry but its not a huge input. South Italians also have a little bit of Germanic ancestry because of the Normans. Northern Italians are descendents from other peoples, like the Gauls, Venetians and Etruscans. And yes, they have Roman ancestry as well as South Italians, Portugueses, Castilians, Catalans, Frenchs, Romanians, Englishes, etc, after all Roman is not a ethnicity, it's a nationality

Italy has people with a very mixed and strong DNA because a lot of different ethnicity crossed on the country under Roman Empire 🇮🇹

Not true! SOUTHERN ITALIANS ARE more Greek and some israelite DNA. But not Arab! Only in parts of sicily are only a bit Arab settlers.

I was busking in the north and the south of Italy.
In the north I made half of rhe money in tips compare what I made in the south where everything was much cheaper, but I found the people to be much more generous and happier.

Not very accurate.
The South is closer to Greece and Israel.
The North is closer to French and Iberians.

In Rome, blonds with unturned noses were looked down on as rural ... poor Pompei had a huge image problem because of his "peasant" look especially next to the super blue-blooded aristocratic Caesar

Northern Italians have Gallo-celtic ancestry and Lombard/Austrian/Franks Germanic tribes. Southern Italians have strong Greek and north African moorish ancestry.
