Setting a tire bead with an air compressor

Simple and safe way to set a bead.....used a ratchet strap once on a half frozen tire, but other than that I have done up to light truck 31" tires this way.

I just did 4 tires on my Hummer H2 this way. Those are large tires, LT315/70R17. But it was very easy. The trick is to STAND UP THE TIRE and position the wheel precisely before pumping it up.

could watch the sunset through the gap between tire and rim.. don't see how an air compressor alone works for me

i hada issue where the bead wasnt even close, so the air just rushed out, so i layed the tire down amd kicked it a few times themdid this, worked great!

Very impressed with this video, will try the air line at my local garage and see how it goes.

Lol your right. I kind of figured that one out. I have done several brand new tires without a problem, but there are some that are stubborn. Thats why I purchased a bead seater. (see my other video) thanks for watching!

This worked great! I just did it on a atv tire. I had it laying down and it just kept leaking air and wouldent seal. I stood it up like him and it held air and set.

Never heard of that combination of tire and rim. But yeah your right some are really stubborn. I bought a bead seater to fix the problem of the ones that just wont set any other way.

@WesSeid I just got done mounting it. I use Xtra seal bead lube applied with a brush. strait No water added. It is mainly for mounting, but does help with setting the bead. It doesnt seal the bead, but if you do have a bead leak they sell bead sealer.

I tried for 2 hours to get an ATV tire to seat and nothing worked, I was just about at the point of pulling my hair out and burning my garage down when I watched your video so I went and put a ratchet strap around it and it took air immediately. I proceeded to drop multiple F bombs and yell "why didn't I think of that! Thank you sir.

That's fine if the tire cooperates. If setting the bead is difficult, you may need to use any variety of tools or tricks.

Well, let's think smaller compressor and tougher situation like boat trailer tire 1/2 this size and sidewalls crimped over time being (unaware) flat due to nonuse. I hate the ratchet strap solution b/c they won't turn loose safely and older ones are even less cooperative.
Old mechanic trick: used bicycle inner tube, wrap it around tire tread dead center (OK to double up),
inflate bike tube until boat tire beads begins to touch wheel (have a chance to seal),
then switch inflation chuck to boat tire, fill until beads seal well.
Pause inflation while you deflate bike tube, then fill boat tire to whatever specs. rule.
Never throw that bike tube away ... like I did.

Thanks I have to try this with the valve stem on, I see guys setting it with starter fluid but this is better.

"Normal 30 gallon house compressor" - Wtf, ours is 2 gallons and we consider upgrading to 8 gallons... We are pretty DIY and have seated a few tires, but it's definitely not easy.

Mine will not even start. It keep blowing out the side of the tire and not pushing the bead out

When I try that without a bead expander the air just escapes around the rim. What did you do?

Everyday household 30 gallon compressor, I wish! :)

dude this looks cos this tyre is bald so therefore has been fitted (inflated) on the rim for 1000s of miles/many years making it stretch to its correct shape, it may not be this simple with a new tyre or 1 that has been stored for months with others stacked on top of it

Looks like you have some type of liquid on there. Does that help the seal, or just the mounting?

Try a 33 x 12.5 inch tire on a 10 inch rim. Ain't quite so

What did you use around the edge of the tire where it’s wet?
