Let's talk about your feet. I used to have flat feet and was given arch supports, but they only made me dependent on the supports. I actually felt better when I stopped using them.

Shoes are also very unnatural. Compressing the toes into pointed shoes, for example, can create problems with your gait, balance, muscles, and knees.

Because you spend the majority of your day in shoes, it’s crucial to wear very comfortable shoes.

Shoes can increase your risk of:
• Knee pain
• Low back pain
• Reduced range of motion
• Increased temperature of the feet
• Knee adduction
• A stiff Achilles tendon
• Reduced circulation
• Shortened calf length

Start looking for shoes that have less of a heel and are closer to the ground. They should also provide more space for your toes to help increase your stability.

A fantastic therapeutic exercise for your feet is walking barefoot on grass and sand. At first, your feet will feel tired, but they will get stronger over time.

Benefits of walking barefoot:
1. A chance for your toes to spread
2. More communication between your feet and the ground
3. A decreased load on your joints
4. An increased range of motion
5. Increased stability and balance

One of the best books on this subject is called Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. He figured out why the Tarahumara Indians could run hundreds of miles and never get injured. The notion that the human foot is inherently flawed and automatically needs some kind of corrective device is kind of nuts.

I feel more “ in control” when I am barefoot. I have hiked in my bare feet. I now garden in my bare feet. The woman who does my pedicures is very understanding. 😬🙏🏼❤️

My feet have been a mess since birth. Severe club feet and numerous surgeries. I did the corrective braces for 12 years. Then most of my adult life wearing a 5/8 heel-to-toe lift on my right shoe. In 2014 I ditched the lift and gave barefoot shoes a try and never looked back. Xero is my favorite and the only brand I wear. I walk barefoot as much as possible too. My feet have never been happier.

My nosy neighbor criticized me for allowing my 2 year old to walk outside (mostly on grass) without shoes. My baby hates shoes. I’m glad I have some info to share with the nosy Nancy next time she has something negative to say!

Great info as always! I’m 52 and researched this in Feb ‘22 due to a recommendation form a coworker who runs barefoot. The more I researched, the more I realized how flawed “normal” shoes are. Ever since, my everyday shoes are a couple of pairs of Xero shoes with zero drop and only 4mm soles and a pair of Lems that are zero drop and about 10mm thick soles for work. The experience has been wonderful. My feet have become so much stronger and my lower back pain has gone away, especially standing for extended periods like in a line.

I really recommend you research this and give it a shot. It’s so logical and makes so much sense.

To be honest, walking barefooted on the grass in the morning is just so relaxing. The other benefits are just a bonus!

Me and my husband were sitting here talking about it since I’ve been so stressed lately. I want to start doing this since I got grass around my house.

I've worked in the service industry for a decade, and I'm currently a year in working for Amazon(12-15 miles of walking a day). I suffered with foot, knee, and back pain for so many years. After swithcing to barefoot shoes, I dont wake up barely able to stand anymore, and nothing hurts like it used to. It took a few months to get used to, but I have ranges of motion I never used to have. I've tried to tell other drivers, but it almost sounds too good to be true and crazy at the same time.

I have heavily stained feet from gardening bare foot. I was perplexed when you said to wear gloves in the garden. I still garden barefoot without gloves and no chemicals.
