As a blood banker in a trauma hospital, this is so accurate!! Our hospital doesn't collect urines for a possible transfusion reaction, but we used to at one point. We usually just have the vitals retaken, a new pink top drawn, a green top for a few chemistries, and the blood bag sent up. And of course, what ever symptoms the patient experienced. Most of the time it's an increase in the patients temp, and thankfully, the transfusion reaction work up usually points to it not being a significant reaction. Usually for additional transfusions, they might just premedicate.

If you are not able to do the first step and having problems with the computer, do not let the blood out. If it gets warm for being out for too long and then returned. If that unit of blood ends up dispose an incident needs to be written, so please. Sent it back. If you are having problems with the patients line or the computer. Do not wait too long sent it back. Blood products records are audited, so they are closely monitor by your blood bank/ transfusion services.

Wow, it's a really big difference between nursing in the Us and in Germany because blood transfusions are not allowed to be done by nurses in Germany, only docs do them

Love this but you have the physician get consent before you even take the blood in the room meaning the consent should be done before you match the blood to the patient.. that’s a test question.. we are there to witness it

I got 1 blood transfusion mins before my emergency surgery I had a bowel abstraction. I had gastric bypass surgery about 12 yrs ago and now having issues. I have 2 bowel abstraction surgery and the second I had the blood transfusion they said if I didn't get the transfusion I wouldn't make it threw surgery. I have very low iron and they want to start another blood transfusion and then start iron infusions. seeing this video scars me can I have a reaction this this from a blood transfusion??? are there any reactions from a iron infection?? please let me know 🙏
