Mutual inspections of each others nuclear facilities was always a non starter, for obvious reasons. Both sides have similar suspicions with good reason, however, the World by now realises that Russia as a state is a comprehensive liar and therefore a system which depends on even a minimum of trust between nations cannot rely on good faith in Russia which does not exist.

Amazing to see how Russia lives in this parallel universe. The 'west' certainly isn't perfect, but it is definitely the best system we have for a civilised, just & fair society. Russian propoganda does seem eerily similar to the mid-late 30s with Hitler. Inciting hatred against other groups of people. Nobody is attacking Russia. Nobody was going to attack Russia. The civilised world has been trying to welcome Russia into the modern era of global trade and the benefits that flow to living standards etc.

We all know why Putin invaded. He is partly attempting to remedy past wrongs in the collapse of the Soviet Union and partly wanting to create some mystical legacy for himself in Russian folklore. It is so sad the whole lot of it. All built on lies from the Kremlin & Putin.

The part that stood out to me was his complete lack of reality to the economic situation. Last spring Russia cancelled all domestic projects.. no road construction, no new schools or hospitals. they just paused everything... yet a huge part of his speech talked about new plans for the future..he talked about building tech universities, industrial parks, primary schools... also he talked about their low unemployment rate, which is misleading because they just sent millions of workers home without pay.. so they are technically employed, but without income.

The problem with signing treaties with countries like Russia is western countries generally abide by them transparently whilst Russia does exactly what they want anyway. The entire speech was delusional, criticism of supplying Ukraine weapons systems with extended ranges and the Russian response is to suspend participation in treaties that place limits on weapons.

Fascinating about Navalny. That sounds hopeful. More hopeful than anything I’ve heard out of Russia 🇷🇺 for quite a while.

Why does the introductory audio clip from Johnson have him forcefully denouncing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and from Sunak have him seeming to whine about energy prices? Surely Sunak must have said something more to the occasion. I'm not a Brit, but this has seemed odd to me for quite a while.

By the way, love the series - one of the best on the war.

Would be good if Dom could keep in touch with some of his army mates and update us with estimates of when the Challenger IIs, Leopards etc are expected to become active/effective militarily. Just an idea to keep me happy.😀

Russian genius at skillful withdrawal of its forces should be exploited in 2023 too!!!
