With February coming to a close, it is the very last chance to prune fruit trees. The quality of a very popular compost is questioned and we encounter The Beast from The East together with Storm Emma. Seed sowing continues with Sweet Peppers and Spring Onions

Hello Nigel, all the snow is pretty to look at... At least you were able to sow some more seeds. T

Hi Nigel, brilliantly informative video as usual. Great explanation on pruning fruit trees. Haven’t bought any Clover compost this year but found it to be good last year. Have bought some bags of Bathgate Champions Blend multipurpose which contains rock dust. I’m giving that a try so I’ll let you know how I get on. This weekend I’m going to have a marathon seed sowing session. Need to start my tomatoes off in my propagator ( thermostat is working well) . Take care. Nick

Thanks Nigel
Where did you pick up the rotary sieve? It looks really useful and sturdy.
Nice hat by the way! 😉

Looks like you had plenty of snow then, Nigel!! At least it's improving now! Must get my peppers started off at the weekend.

Thanks for a great update. I have onions (alsa Craig) which are about the same size as your ones in the propagator, when should I start feeding them and what with? Cheers

If you put the clippings from the fruit tree in the ground and the chance of them rooting they will grow into full size trees but they will not be desiese resistant but if you raise your own or buy rootstocks you can graft them to size and desiese resistance. I like to use mm106 or m25 (full size desiese resistant )for our orchard at the farm.Great video like always.i use clover sometimes but for seed sowing I use jacks magic

Hi Nigel, you got more snow than we got. Mind you Uckfield, Crowborough, Eastbourne got a lot more and they are only about seven miles away. We seem to be in a protective pocket. I have held back on seed sowing due to the cold weather but having said that It was around this time last year I started sowing and I did all right. I am going to give Jacks compost a try this year though I did take up the Homebase offer of J Arther Bowers compost at a fiver for 120litres. Take care Mike B

Seems you got out snow this year. Its raining here now but temps are up. Reminds me to do the apple and pear tree.

Thanks I really enjoyed that video :) I love the propagaters in the greenhouses!!! I think I might try and knock one up. Good tip with the spring onions too!!

So much advice for me in this video, thank you!! In particular the multi-seed sowing of the spring onions so you can pick in bunches later 👍 Question: I’ve got a very large apple tree that can’t reach with secateurs. Is it ok to use long reach loppers on apple trees as long as I try to keep the cuts angled?? Help!

Hello Nigel, the clover I have is a good quality again, not sure where we get ours. You looked very cold carrying that wood, that wind was cold. We have had an early warning of cold weather around Easter, lets hope that the Met Office gets it wrong this time #TheBeastFromTheEast.

🌱Happy Gardening To You And All My Viewers And Subscribers, Terry.

You might call it the Beast from the East, but in Finland we call it Tuesday

I think we should take bad compost back as it would have more of an effect than just complaining.

Yet again another great video with loads of information. Definitely going to do my spring onions like this as I've never really had much success with them, so this way might just work for me. Thanks again, Julie
