The lore in this film is that the sword was made from a wizard’s staff by Merlin, so I’m guessing it was due to Merlin’s imagination of what a perfect sword would look like.

Okay but Excalibur was also described as “unlike any sword anyone had ever seen before” so if a sword like it didn’t exist, that would make sense.

Arthur had two different swords, kingmaker or 'the sword in the stone' was first, he received Excalibur later from 'the lady of the lake' so this analysis is accurate for kingmaker but Excalibur was most likely an ulfbert as it was a new sword forged specifically for Arthur

Celtic is pronounced with a hard "C", i.e. "Keltic". A "Seltic" is a Bostonian basketball player.

Imagine thinking Excalibur, a magic sword given to King Arthur by a magical lady who lived in a lake, would look like a regular ass sword from the time period.

“Seltic” Oh god that hurt my soul when he pronounced it wrong. It’s “Celtic” with a hard C.

I think you should have shown a spatha that was richly decorated with gold and jewels on it. Because a sword like that is a sword fit for a king of any age, it probably would be worth a fortune in the migration period as well.

It also WASN'T the Sword in the Stone, that was Kingmaker. Excalibur was given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake, 2 totally different swords if you go by the myth.

The sword originally “Caliburn” (the sword of selection) was probably just a regular sword with little magic/blessing imbued since it broke after battle, it was reforged to Excalibur “cut-steel” meaning it was a sword never seen before, theres a high chance the sword was forged by elves/dwarves in Avalon and imbued with magic/blessing by lady nimue/merlin. But since Merlin was mainly a prophet, lady nimue most likely had to do with these stuff.

I like the idea of it being a Roman sword. It feels like when something is pre war in fallout and the modern people misinterpret its original use or meaning.

I will always be more partial to the Greek xiphos as my favorite sword

I find Arthur this interesting blend of a dying Roman influence being mixed with a surge in Celtic revanchism as they became the new ruling power of the island. It is entirely possible that Arthur’s two swords could reflect this, the Roman weapon being the Sword in the Stone that signifies his right to rule as something cemented in Roman lineage, but the Celtic weapon being the gift from the Lady of the Lake, a Druidic being tied to his ancient Celtic bloodline.

This could be true. Or maybe excalibur is simply so amazing that it was made in a completely different manner then any standard sword

This guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about until he pronounced it "seltic" like the sports team rather than "Keltic" like the cultural group.

My personal head canon about Excalibur is that the blade changes to suit the user, I mean it is a magical sword

Pronouncing it Seltic really undoes all the authority that the tie gives him... 😆

The Arthurian myth could be a result of the chaos caused by the fall of the Roman Empire so this makes a lot of sense

Thought: what if Excalibur wasn't made in Europe?
It was supposed to be mystical, and cut extra deeply, causing Wounds that bled more than usual.
At the time period you specified, wootz steel been invented in India (c. 1000 BC - 600 AD) so it's conceivable that Excalibur was made of a steel superior to what was commonly available, and given the propensity of heavy decoration on Indian blades of the period, could easily be seen as a "kingly" weapon.
I'm thinking Arthur may have found/been given a khanda (straight, can be used two handed, cuts extremely well, tip heavy for heavy chopping and more impact force, but surprisingly light for its size).
What do you think?

Woah... i didn't know the name of it, but the image of a Spatha was literally exactly the image of what popped into my head when i wondered what an older sword than a broadsword would look like

I might be speaking out of bias, but that feels like a sign of what it might've looked like
