Fun fact: Pistol duels added more RNG, since usually each side would fire (only) one shot. They could try again, but firing more than 3 shots was considered barbaric

If I understand correctly, the point of dueling was more to prove your willingness to risk your life for honor, not about killing. In fact, many of the rules of the duel was to prevent it from escalating to killing.

There is a story in germany about a noble guy who was challenged to a battle to first blood. However, this noble guy was not keen on fighting, but not showing up would dishonor him. Thus, he showed up, but when the fight was about to strat, he just purposfully cut his thumb on his own blade, ending the duel instantly.

Mutual Combat laws permit people to fight without assault charges so long as the fight is consensual. If both parties agreed and it doesnt get out of hand, its all legal
