Rufus and Windows 11 - 24H2

Now that Windows 11 - 24H2 is available, I take another look at Rufus to see if it is still possibe to install the newest version of Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

Rufus, isn't just about getting Windows 11 on to unsupported hardware though, there are a couple of other good reasons why you might want to use Rufus to install Windows 11 even if your hardware does meet the minimum requirements.

In this video, I attempt a clean install to install a fresh copy of Windows 11 but also try an In-Place upgrade from Windows 10.

As of version 24H2, anyone who wants to carry out an In-Place upgrade onto unsupported hardware will first need to run the two commands below to modify the registry to allow the installation to begin.

Open a command prompt (Run as Administrator), then copy and paste both the commands below.
Then run the Windows 11 Setup application as normal.

Thanking you for giving such a clear explanation on how to install the WIN 11 24H2 using RUFUS. Rufus really saved my mini pc issue on TPM 2.0 not detected. For more than 2 weeks I cannot clear the error on WIN11 24H2 and system rolls back to WIN 11 23H2. Really appreciate your sound installation guide.

Add a new setup.exe wrapper to bypass Windows 11 24H2 in-place upgrade restrictions
Add TimeZone to regional options replication
Set local account passwords to not expire by default
Fix an error when trying to write compressed VHD images
Fix an error when invoking Rufus from the PowerShell commandline
Improve revoked UEFI bootloaders check to support Linux SBAT, Windows SVN and cert DBX
Improve support for ReactOS boot media

second option is mount windows iso and on cmd run as administrator. navigate to windows installation folder and type in "setup.exe /product server". and hope all goes well

Adding the deletion of the partitions really helps. Even I need to look it up, and I've used PCs since 1981. So many operating systems.

Great excellent tutorial.. i watched many of these videos, and yours is the only one that detailed how to do the installation after making the Bootable USB Disk. i don't need to do anything right now. Just being proactive because i just had another horror story Blue Screen moment after a Windows Update. I lost all of my current files with songs i created. I have a backup on an external SSD, hopefully i can get that going. Thank again for the clear, and concise info

A new requirement in 24H2 is that the CPU must support SSE4.2 or it won't even boot and you may not even be able to start the install as it may not even boot to the installation program. I tested this for myself on two PCs that don't support SSE4.2 but run 23H2 just fine and both wouldn't even boot the installer. If your CPU doesn't support SSE4.2 Rufus can't bypass that requirement at least for the time being.
