Please note that I received my SpyderX Elite model that I used in the video from Datacolor for free in exchange for my evaluation and demonstration. Please read my Code of Ethics Statement:

I have used a Spyder for my laptop and it works very well. The one thing to keep in mind is even after calibration, if you are going to edit photos, make sure the monitor has had enough time to warm up. I have seen this when coming home and after booting up the computer to load images, the colors will be slightly off for the first 30 minutes. If you have a high end graphics monitor, the warmup times can be as short as 5 minutes.

Can you let us know if these types of calibration devices also calibrate overall brightness and contrast settings, or is it only color balance. Users can usually change contrast and brightness settings on the monitor. If this is done after calibration, is the monitor no longer calibrated? If calibration does not adjust contrast and brightness then what is the best way to calibrate those settings before calibrating color balance?

Thanks! If one uses their laptop in two different lighting locations, one bright and one dark, should a profile be setup for both locations?

Thank you for this video. I calibrate my desktop monitor and I have no issues with the color in my photos. I do have to adjust brightness when I print. I use a canon pixma pro 100 and use icc profiles for for the paper I use and the colors are perfect, but I have to lighten it to look good on paper. I did not see you address the brightness issue and wondered if you have any recommendations . Thank you for your videos.

very interesting. I have just purchased a EIZO CS2731 to replace Philips EL273 and I don't know what to do with Navigator software and spyder. I have understood we need to use a usb cable... any experience on that ? And what about calibrating a printer like Epson SCP600 ? I have understood we need to use A4 photo paper even if we use 13x18cm all the time.

Even if calibrate your computer many photo software's color comes out rather randomly. How do you not do discard ICC-profiles that you calibrated. Like in Luminar when view them they are over saturated and did not i did not do any processing. Where do you look that photos that I calibrated on my computer ICC-profile, before sending out to print.

This is where it gets a little complicated. The film and TV industries set the colour of grey (white point) at D65 (6500K). But digital cameras normal white point is D55 (5500K). Yet the printing industry use a white point of D50 (5000K)! Therefore if you want to print your photos with a printing company you should calibrate your monitor to D50. But change it to D65 if you watch movies on your computer. Fun, eh?

Apart from caliblatation the issue I have is brightness of wide field astro images (Milky Way with landscape) . Last image I printed came out as dark as monitor at lowest brightness. How do you determine the brightness of a night image as a print. Do you have to know where a print will hang

I bought the SpyderX a few weeks ago and calibrated my monitors. Colour looks a bit dark to me but I'm sticking with it to see how it changes when printed.

Hi Anthony another great video. I will use my Spyder5Pro to calibrate my HP W2371d Monitor. I have tried to get information from HP without sucess.regarding the display controls. Can I just go ahead and check the "Display Controls" and let Datacolor go ahead and do its magic

You kind of forgot to mention that the screen calibration adjusts the colours in the software and that the controld on the monitor need to be adjusted manually for a good starting position. It's no use doing a calibration if the screen brightness is too low and the contrast too high etc.

Will the SpyderX work to calibrate a Samsung TV used as a monitor for a MacPro computer?

Before buying a calibration system, compare your prints to your screen. Don't expect an exact match (even after calibration), but is it good enough? I don't know about new $100 monitors or $400 laptops, but pricier new monitors and laptop screens are often calibrated well enough now for many users. The difference in Anthony's before-and-after was small and may not justify the cost for you. Years ago, even pricey monitors and laptops benefited more from calibration than today.

There are a number of these for sale used but I have heard the software licences is non transferable and once registered the product can only be used by the original owner. Can you comment?
