Utah Beach 6 June 1944 - In combat with the 4th Infantry Division

In this video we will take a look at the battle of Utah Beach through the eyes of the 4th Infantry Division attacking it. Utah Beach was the northernmost beach of the Normandy landings. Landing was foreseen to take place further north, but strong winds, the tidal current and smoke resulted in the landing crafts reaching the beach opposite the contemporary memorials most of us have visited. Enjoy!

My dad was with the 8th Infantry Regiment and landed at Utah. He did share with me that they were all expecting fierce resistance from the Germans as they were landing. However, because they landed south of their target area, they had little resistance. As he put it, "We basically walked up over the beach and inland." He later went on to fight in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest and lost his right eye. His ticket home. Such a brave generation. We owe them all our freedom.

My grandfather Jesse B Davis landed there on June 6th with the 4th ID 8th IR, and my other grandfather Benjamin F Compton landed there on June 6th with the 4th ID 12thIR. I can't wait to visit there one day.

My great uncle landed at Utah as a rifleman with the 4th Infantry. He had turned 21 the day before. A few days in he was wounded and ended up in earning 2 Purple Hearts throughout his WW2 tour.

I have an Uncle who was part of the 82nd Airborne now deceased that I admire, he was part of the invasion and we didn't know it until his funeral. He paid a heavy price by having nightmares every night for the rest of his life! This is the greatest generation and I thank you!

It's all so peaceful now, it's hard to imagine what it must have been like at the time. You conveyed both atmospheres beautifully, as usual, and your graphics are getting better and better. Thanks Ace!

Nice. The depth and quality of your work never fails to impress. It's really shocking how your channel doesn't have a million subscribers by now.

Hope you’re doing okay, always liked to and watch your vids while I eat (which is the biggest compliment you can receive) and I find myself here again.

I really appreciate the way you give context to the stories I've read. You do a good job of showing small segments of a battle and explaining them thoroughly. Too often historians try to explain the entire battle and have to leave out a lot. Your channel has become one of my favorites. Thank you again, sir. I hope I get to see some of these locations in person some day.

I keep coming back to this channel because of the detail. The description of the encounters experienced by each unit is so interesting. That coupled with the maps and corresponding historical film clips is such an effective method of communicating the essence of each battle.

Great job, a very nice balance between maps for an overview and real-life footage to get a feel for the atmosphere.

I served almost 4 years in the 1/8 Infantry during the early 80's and had the opportunity to view copies of some of the daily reports for June 6th and the campaigns following. Very few men made it all the way through to VE Day. We understood what a lineage we had to live up to.

Note: The Soldier of the Battalion Color Guard who carried the Regimental Flag was picked for his strong back due to the sheer mass of the Campaign Ribbons attached.

You have not posted a video for six months now, which is very unusual for you. With a subscriber base of over 50, 000 people, you are missed by every single one of us. I hope you are okay? You are deeply missed. I hope you will return soon. God bless you.

Great video man. Wish you could find a way to mix in some relevant Graviteam gameplay or something in small spots with the battle maps. Love the other footage though. Fantastic work. Really.

An entire Infantry division versus one German 2-tier Infantry battalion. Even with bad tides and landing, the luck and numbers were with the 4th INF. Great work again young man!
