My Grandfather landed here. Thank you for sharing this. Little tidbit - his name was one of 5 pulled out of hat who had a stay of leave, got to meet General Montgomery shake his hand and go home before returning.

The 24th Lancers also landed at D-Day and saw some of the hardest battles of Normandy at Tilly-sur-Seulles and St. Pierre.

My grandmother's cousin, with the 1st Hampshires, didn't make it off the beach here. His role was to clear it under constant direct fire.

We stayed in a gite in Crepon, owned by the mayor, it had been commandeered by the Germans as a local HQ in the war. A couple of small swastikas had been scratched into the sandstone doorframe of one of the outbuildings by the occupiers. Significant graffiti.

With Rangers for Pointe du Hoc and 9 Para for Merville, why was there no special provision for Longues sur Mer?
