As my Dad used to tell me, "don't want the world to listen? Don't say it out in the world."

I don't try to eavesdrop on customer conversations but my ears are trained for that "I'm looking for a thing and I don't know where it is" tone.

"What a bastard" that's way too real 😂

I would say "Hey come on no cliff hangers, our job is boring this is the small shard of hope in our despair"

the "losing my will to live" at the beige or dark beige option is so real

It's barely eavesdropping if they're doing it blatantly and loudly in Public.

I once got into a conversation with a customer about their work. They were a researcher who documents dying languages and the history of those languages

I don’t mind when customers stop for a chat but when they block the ails it’s like can you please take your not very interesting conversation outside.

We had a woman, with her friend on speaker phone, talking about how they were all going to have to get together and perform an exorcism on their friend who was possessed by the Devil himself. Apparently because they were “God’s children” they have the authority to tell the Devil to “get out.” The entire store was in the next aisle listening 😂🤣

No reasonable expectation of privacy in a retail shop, unless you are in the restroom.

Frankly, if I was having a conversation like that in the middle of a store, I'd be surprised if anyone wasn't listening.

Fun Fact: me and my sister back in the day would just make up gossip and make it as outrageous the more you knew someone was listening and would randomly just cut off and walk away when it was getting good. We did this at several stores and knew who was ease dropping.

This is when having really sensitive hearing can be really handy. Great for gossip but awful when screaming kids or argumentative folk desend. Between that and a good poker face, you can learn a lot about an area working retail. Especially when it's from the little old ladies who know absolutely everyone in a 20 mile radius.

When I worked at Walmart as a cashier there was this one customer that always came by. I can't remember her name but she was an absolutely delightful deaf lady that would go out of her way to get to my line because at the time I knew a little bit of sign language.but she was a lovely person who was always kind and when I didn't have food or money for lunch she paid for my lunch.

That's the good thing about working front of shop at Greggs, you get to HAVE those conversations!

This shit happens to me in restaurants all the time when I'm eating with my family.
I tend to accidentally eavesdrop before I started becoming addicted to it over the years.

You hear some of the wildest stories from these people.
