Sepsis: First Response - Educational Video

Показать описание
As many as 87% of sepsis cases originate in the patient’s community. Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to an infection that takes 270,000 lives a year in the United States alone. EMS are often the first medical providers to reach these cases.

In fact, EMS transports as many as 60% of patients with severe sepsis arriving at the emergency department, yet many EMS are unaware of sepsis or what they should do if they suspect it.

In response, Sepsis Alliance created Sepsis: First Response, an education video to prepare pre-hospital care providers to better identify and treat sepsis cases they encounter in the field. This video offers pre-hospital providers with the tools to rapidly identify sepsis, begin treatment, and effectively coordinate with the emergency department and in-hospital colleagues.

Sepsis: First Response has been endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians, the National Association of EMS Educators and the New England Center for Rescue and Emergency Medicine.

I am a 5 year survivor after sepsis with multiple organ failure ~ after heart surgery to replace my mitral & aortic valves damaged from strep as a teen.. I live with post sepsis syndrome & diabetes / thyroid issues and muscle loss.. Live is the key word.. Luckily my Drs. were quick to act.. I only had a 2% chance of survival.. My family went through hell & back.. I was in a coma on a ventilator & dialysis luckily I was unaware of what was happening.. I was so happy to see this video and thankful that people are being educated about the signs & symptoms & made aware of just how deadly & life threatening sepsis is... Thanks to the Paramedics & EMTs 💜 who save lives daily..!!

Most elderly patients in the hospital with a catheter get UTI’s and end up with sepsis.

While walking my dog one morning I tripped on some broken sidewalk and fell on my hands and knees. The only wounds were some pin sized ones on both heels of my hands and my knees hurt. However as the day progressed my knees started hurting more than I thought they should so I went to the InstaCare at the hospital. They took x-rays and found no broken bones so the doctor sent me home. Two days later I was back again with more pain. Again x-rays found nothing and exam found nothing. Sent home. The next day I went back again because the pain was even worse and the doctor came out and sent me to the ER. The ER checked me out sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics. The next day I was back again, now with a fever. My left leg was so hot that the nurses soaked towels in a bowl of ice water and laid them on the leg, which felt great but when they took the towels off they commented on how hot the towels had gotten. I was finally checked into the hospital. If my leg touched anything it felt like broken glass being ground into a wound. I hadn't been sleeping because of the pain so they gave me morphine, which let me nap for 20 minutes and did nothing else. Motrin helped the most. The nurse said they were pumping twice the normal amount of IV solution to help flush the bacteria out of my system. They came by several times day and night to check my blood. I only found out after i'd gotten home 5 days later and so bored I read my release papers that I'd had cellulitis and something called Sepsis. I didn't know what that was so I looked it up and was in for a big surprise. Totalling up the percentages I found I was really lucky to leave the hospital in a wheelchair and not a body bag. I could have lost my leg, it did turn black at one point but it turned out to be from blood pooling when they PT had me get out of bed and walking a few yards and then sitting in a chair for a few minutes. As soon as I got back into bed the normal coloring slowly came back. I was in the worst pain of my life for almost 2 months. Every time I had to get out of bed the pain was so bad I screamed uncontrollably. Over the 4 years since my health has declined and I wonder if it's from that sepsis?

I was sent to the hospital last August because I had gone into sepsis from a really bad UTI. I live in a nursing home and they called an ambulance and sent me to the hospital. When I got to the hospital they called my husband and because I was so sick the doctor allowed him to put on a gown and mask and come back to see me. I don't remember any of this, but the doctor told my husband that they were admitting me to the ICU because I had sepsis and if they didn't treat it right away it could be fatal due to the fact that my immune system was so compromised! They allowed him to go upstairs with me but not to stay because they had to do a lot of things to me right away to help me get better!

A little over two years ago, I almost died from septic shock as a result of toxic mega colon. The day it happened I knew something was wrong so my mom took me to one of those urgent care clinics and when the doctor on duty couldn’t get a blood pressure reading he insisted on sending me to the emergency room immediately!

I’m in hospital and have been in surgery this morning and lost all of my toes on right foot die to sepsis. Infection started in my heel. I had temperature, redness spreading and felt so poorly. I went ambulanced after waiting 4 hours for it and then stuck into a cubicle and left for 5 hours. In that space of time my foot and toes were black. No one even LOOKED at my foot for 4.5 hours. So them I’m rushed over to a vascular team at Southampton and into surgery to save my life. I’m now resting and dressing tomorrow when I have sounds checks and vac machine attached etc road to recovery in long xx.

According to my ICU nurses, paramedics likely saved me. By the time i got to the ER they were alerted. What i thought was a gi flare was a massive infection in my colon. They took the time to get 3 iv's in me and meds. I did end up ventilated with kidney failure. Im only 2 weeks home now and still fearful😢

Can you please contact me so I can tell my mom's story where sepsis lead to septic shock and complications lead to her death last May 26th? I don't want anyone else to die because of it. I don't want her death to be in vain and even though it'll be emotional for me to tell I feel ready to tell it.

I believed I have sepsis, few years ago I acquired UTI my back is aching up to now.A few year ago I got tooth decay.
I visited a dental clinic and the dentist manged to extract it, She said the tooth is infected. So I believed these are the reasons I have sepsis up to now. A month ago I visited a government hospital I told the doctor about it.
So she told me to get blood test. And she said my blood is normal. I think the reason my blood is normal because I'm eating garlic to prevent this blood infection to go severe. Any professional doctors reading this please give me advice. What should I do next now?
