In the past six months alone, 40 million people have been targeted by scammers, a 14% increase on last year. A particularly hard-to-spot scam called number spoofing is also on the rise, where a scammer is able to modify their caller ID and mimic the number of a company or bank.

26-year-old dog trainer Millie Clark knows this scam all too well, as she was conned out of over £20,000 when she received a call from what appeared to be her bank. After she nearly lost her business, Millie joins Holly and Phillip today to tell her story and warn others about number spoofing.

I am so paranoid that I always call companies back with numbers I get for myself. Even the police knocked my door and I checked police station to make sure it was the real police.

People need to understand that the telephone number on your card is the number you ring when you are in trouble to connect to your bank. It isn't the number the bank uses too contact you. So if you see that number then you should know its fake.

I don’t answer phone calls I don’t know. I let it ring out then I Google it.

If I get a text like that I don’t click on it and I contact the company myself as I don’t trust texts out of the blue same if I get texts from the bank or credit card companies

I have been scammed before, it's a traumatic experience. It makes you question how someone could do the most unjustifiable things, often to people who are kind and caring.

I wonder who these scammers are. What do they use these stolen funds for? Just for their day to day living expenses? Or something more sinister?

I'm amazed she actually had 20k in the first place.

Her first mistake was keeping money in the bank. That's the last place you want your money. People don't care and don't do their research. In 100% of cases the banks always end up taking all your money. Just depends what part of the cycle you're in. If it's the trust building cycle you're in luck. If you're on the back end you learn the hard way.

Got a whatapp a week ago with a lady who was from 'total jobs' asking if I wanted a part time job paying £3, 000 a week 😂 i asked her where she got my number from.. apprently the british govement so kindly gave it to her, i asked her to prove it and she avoided and carryed on asking about the job. I did report it to whatsapp but there was no option to why i was reporting the number.

Something like this happened to me YESTERDAY! I got a call random with a mobile number, asking me personal questions, I said sorry you have the wrong number, then she said NO you have a Vodafone account? Then it hit me, so I said what's my name and account number? She said I need to go through security first, I said OK tell me my name in full, she couldn't so I said if this was Vodafone they would address me by my name, then I said go by. I felt it wasn't real, her tone wasn't genuine.
