In this video I discuss an oldschool book on complex analysis written by a famous mathematician.

The book is called Complex Variables and it was written by George Polya and Gordon Latta.

This book has something unique. It interpretes the complex function as vector fields and enables one to understand hydro and aerodynamics from the perspective of complex variables. Even there is something called "Polya vector field" in his honour. Not surprising though, he was a "Martian" after all.

3 words. Visual Complex Analysis. Best Complex Analysis book ever for beginners. Its by Tristan Needham by the way, and he was influenced by Polya too

Looks interesting!
One question: Does Complex Analysis by Lang suits a beginner's study well? Many sources on the internet advise against it, but it's the only complex analysis book I have lying around (picked up before lockdown from the library). Also, I didn't have much problem reading the first chapter at least (I'm a slow learner 😅).

Since we are here, and you are into calculus, did you cover, or plan to cover, some math problems books, such as Polya and Szego?

I think Stein’s book is my all time favorite
But I’ll give this a try.

Hi! Have you heard about the Markushevich book ''The theory of functions of a complex variable''?

Great video, I am still looking for the best complex variables book. This one is quite expensive.

I hate to disagree with you. I have that book. Picked it up for about $5 used.

I really don't care for it at all. I really didn't get much out of the book. I don't think it's a very good book, inspite of the fact that the author was a famous mathemetician.

I really prefer Churchill's book as a first look along with Schaum's Outline.

How does this book compare with Saff and Snyder?

Just one tiny detail: Pólya is pronounced as \ˈpoː.ja\ (more or less), so it's kind of more like POI-a then Poi-i-a. (In spanish I would transscribe it as "pólla".)
