I don't listen to audiobooks on my first read because I enjoy being voice director, and it gives me creative freedom in my mind. It's Similar to the reason I don't listen to music while reading, which is I don't want to impose a mood the book itself doesn't create.

Why yes, I do overthink every aspect of my life, how could you tell?

So, there's on-the-ear headphones and over-the-ear headphones; there's also near-the-ear headphones like AfterShokz and in-ear headphones like Jabra 75t... also, also there's off-the-ear headphones I like to call speakers. Hope you enjoy your next book.

I have never listened to an audio book. My reason is simple too. I dont understand what I hear nearly as well as what I read.

I listened to a lot of audiobooks as a kid in the car in bad traffic, and it would always give me a headache, so now it's just hard to process a book when my brain is associating audiobooks with "ah headache time" but I of course fully support people who listen to audiobooks and can do that

As someone who has been listening to audiobooks for the past year and a half, this is accurate. I prefer reading, but my job is incredibly tedious, and having an audiobook to listen to makes it go by so much faster.

My ears are sore for a while after though.

It's true! When you wear glasses, it smashes them against your head and the backs of your ears. Earbuds hurt after a while too. I do transcription. I've learned all of this the hard way!

i love audiobooks personally! i usually just have them play on my laptop speakers while i work (illustrator). if anyone is looking for good audiobooks i really recommend a wizard of earthsea, i found the audiobook to be really wonderful and warm :-)

I almost exclusively Listen to audiobooks because I can have my hands free. Cleaning? Audiobook. Commute? Audiobook. During work? You guessed it.

Same about the headphones, in ear ones hurt after a bit and I don’t like how sound cancelling over ear ones are.

I just rock the old phone speaker for them, but if you live with others people always have a talent for walking in at the exact wrong moment every time.

I was once listening to A Dance With Dragons and my brother happened to come in the during a chapter where Daenerys was having very detailed diarrhea.

That was unfortunate and probably not the best introduction he could’ve had to the books.

I can't listen to audibooks because I always fall asleep on them. I cannot just sit there and listen, or this happens. And if I try to do something to occupy myself so I don' fall asleep, then I just miss half the stuff being read to me. I *need* to be sitting down and reading, it cannot be any other way.

If I'm listening to a book the narrator is going to mention a tree and then that will make me think of the giant tree I had in my backyard as a kid and how part of it's bark was reddish but it wasn't a redwood and fun fact endor was filmed in redwood national park and a lot of the tatooine locations can be visited in Tunisia and apparently while filming the neighboring country Libya thought the sandcrawler was some kind of military vehicle and got worried and oh yeah in back to the future the libyans shot doc brown and now it's been an entire chapter of the book that i haven't paid attention to
