Stroke Recovery

No two strokes are ever the same.

Amy Mintmier of the UPMC Carlisle Stroke Rehab Unit adapts her treatment plans to a patient’s unique needs and circumstances. Some patients need to focus on motor skills to regain strength, dexterity, or mobility. Occupational therapy might help someone remaster everyday tasks, like eating, dressing, or making their way around the house. Other patients work on communication, cognitive skills, or speech therapy. Many will undergo a combination of multiple therapies. Some need no therapy at all.

The brain is remarkably complex — and so is stroke recovery.
