I’m only 3 days in and All I do is think about my old job. I planned to stay at that company forever and I am deeply depressed and I am having panic attacks and emotional breaks which has never happened before

Yup. That was just like me. I took the first job that said they would hire me right after college and I was desperate so I took it. One week in I realized that the manager lied to me about my schedules, what my responsibilities were etc. The costmers would yell at me for the cleaning staffs negligence and the staff was incredibly rude and toxic. I felt extremely anxious everyday. I quit one week in. The physical and emotional exhaustion was not worth the measly pay of $11 an hour. Bye👋

Listened to this in 2022 and again on Sept 2023. After 100 interviews and 20 years in my field. The Reality....companies lie. It is tough to navagiate through the muddy waters.

Yep - just started a new job - one month in and wish I’d never taken it - over worked in a department under staffed - can’t shine through .

I am not sorry for leaving my old co, but having regrets with the new job after six months.

We have had several employees leave our department recently and then almost immediately beg to come back. The job market is so tight that hiring managers at some companies are lying their rears off to lure candidates .

This happened to me. I was at my job for 6 years, was happy but just wanted a little extra money. I thought the grass was greener on the other side so I left for a new job, hated it and lasted only 4 months there. I ended up quitting but haven’t had stable work since. I haven’t been able to find a company that I love, and I get really sad thinking about it.

Same here! I moved to a different state drove 2k miles. Salary is not what is on paper especially after taxes! I hate It so much, I am off and always thinking about work Sunday evening rolls around and already dreading Monday! Weather in this town sucks! Winters are brutal, I just want to move back home!

I left my old non-union company after 10 years to join a union one doing the exact same job. I loved that old company and the people. I sold out for a $15k/year pension plan. I completely regret my decision. Money isn't everything and I'm learning that the hard way.

The romantic analogy is interesting for situations like this. If your partner reveled themselves to be not a match for you one month in, you wouldn't think twice about leaving. I think the money and scarcity mentality related to Jobs is what makes it harder. "omg my life will fall apart if I don't make this job work, I don't have a choice".

4h day on the job and it’s definitely not what I expected. It’s a government position. People are nice and friendly, but the job seems to be diff from my field. Pay is also lower than my last job, so I feel stuck. Deciding whether to leave by next week or stick it out.

Ooof I am in a similar boat and am relentlessly beating myself up about it. I graduated 3 years ago with my Bachelors and still have no freaking idea what I want to do. Quit a job after 6 months that wasn't a good fit. Took a new job and, much like the caller, 3 months in, it is also not a good fit. All I want is to take a few months off to really take some time to myself and get some clarity on what I want next, but I can't afford it. Silver lining is that I'm only 25 so have some time to work out kinks.

I was in my last job as an x-ray tech for about 5 years. I loved my job but wasn't getting anywhere professionally. I decided to leave, and through some real internal searching concluded that schedule, work/life balance, opportunity, and good co-workers were what I really wanted in a new job. I took a role as a business development representative about 5 months ago.. All was great in the beginning. The role has changed at least 4 times in 4 months, and we've already changed management. Expectations have never been clearly defined. The job has basically morphed into a self-starter cold call sales job which is the last thing in the world I want to do. I love the company, the culture, and the people. I've been holding on, but this role is simply not for me. I'm debating what to do moving forward, but I can't stay in this role for the year they want me to before a transfer. I wish it wasn't this hard...

Working in payroll made me hate a company I loved(didn’t mind which is love in working terms) but I couldn’t accept the disrespectful salary outlook if I gave them more years

I really could use advice!!

I was laid off from my job in tech in November, and just started a new job doing the same thing for another company a month ago.

The amount of travel required for the job was under-represented to me quite drastically, and I don’t love the industry/product, but I took the job thinking it could be an opportunity to learn more about the role and grow, since I’m only 24 and don’t have enough “experience” for the roles I’m really passionate about. I just am feeling in my gut like I made the wrong decision taking this job, but idk what to do with this uncertain market/tech layoffs. I have enough money in bank, but don’t want to quit after just a month or so, but I can already tell this isn’t a great fit for myself. I’m just really scared and feeling lost and I appreciate anyone’s input. Thank you!

Great advice!! I’m glad you helped her to not say “ya I’m gonna have to shadow and talk to all the employees “ 😆

Thank you for this! I’m in the same predicament, this is very helpful on how I can explain resigning only 4 months in.

I moved across the country and started my new role, and I m totally disappointed as the role was not entirely what I expected. I thought I could use this opportunity could lead me into a senior role, but more limited position with a senior title. I feel stuck now…
