You Don't Need Any Antivirus Protection ?
According to some people, you don't any form of antivirus software on your computer, including Windows Defender. What sort of bad advise is this? I have seen a lot of people making this kind of statement and its pure madness. Yes, you need some form of Antivirus protection on your computer, whether its Windows Defender or some 3rd party software like ESET, Bitdefender or Kaspersky. Free or Paid.

There is some silly people that believe this myth. get protected, stay protected. What AV do you use?

Brian, first and foremost thank you very much for all that you do.
Secondly I completely agree with you on this subject.
And lastly, don't let the negative individuals get to you.

If some individuals wish not to follow wise advice, then so be it. We all have to pay a price for our own actions.
So
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for being there and thanks for helping me.

1. Windows update
2. Browser update
3. Software update
4. Be careful what you do on the internet (surfing, email reviewing...)
5. Windows Defender is ENOUGH
Otherwise, there is no AV that can protect you - PERIOD

Thanks Brian.
I'm of the opinion that it's better to have some sort of protection than none at all.

If you are completely offline and only install your software from trusted local sources and from physical media (remember those halcyon days?) then an antivirus program would possibly be superfluous. If you are still running a Sinclair ZX Spectrum or a BBC Micro or a Commodore 64 then antivirus software is probably useless.

However, even a disconnected Amiga, Atari ST, or PC was vulnerable to boot sector viruses so an antivirus was recommended.

So ... basically I agree with you Brian, antivirus software is a necessity these days.

I'd been using Sandboxie and Shadow Defender for well over a decade, and whilst I had no antivirus I had more than adequate protection. Lately Sandboxie has started to show its age, so now I use Kaspersky Premium and Shadow Defender. Anybody saying you don't need any protection at all is talking out of their backside ...

The people trying to convince others AV isn't necessary probably have a vested interest in convincing people to not use it like for example hackers or scammers would say you don't need AV coz their jobs will be lot easier if less people use antivirus. I never have a computer without extra antivirus

Thanks for standing up for device security, people who think they don't need AV usually go by what sensationalist youtubers say, or call themselves "freethinkers". I am an AVG, Avast and Eset reseller and my customers are perfectly happy with these solutions.

Some years ago I had an argument with my bro-in-law who said AV was a waste of money. Everytime I received an e-mail from him my Norton (I do not believe in "free" AV software) would warn me of a virus/malware. When his boss gave him a written warning about his homework was infecting company computers he only then woke up to the fact that his computer was

It's surprising that some people still believe that antivirus and malware blockers are unnecessary in today's world of technology. All it takes is for someone to take popular software, add a key logger to it, and repackage it on the internet. When you download it, the key registering device will give hackers access to all your information without you even realizing it. It's important to have antivirus and malware programs installed to protect yourself from these threats.

As the CIA says, "There's nothing wrong with being paranoid as long as you know they really are after you."

Sadly, I caught your Eset vid two weeks after I renewed my subscription... next year it will be Eset.

I have a big issue with AV Test. For a very long time I have distantly noticed - When someone leaves a link for a specific product, it will het a great review, this also happens with a search there for a specific product. Although when one searches by year etc for their rankings - The story is far from the same. Back in the day there were at least 2 independent Security Software Companies that were first class. I no longer remember their names although I believe one was in the US and the other was in England. There may gave been a third one also. This back. back to 05 +. I stand by my claim as mentioned.

I have used AV software in the past. All it ever did was flag false positives, which took time to put on an ignore list, or if it did find a genuine infection, it couldn't remove it and it was necessary to Google a manual fix.
The only time I got an infection was due to installing compromised software.
So if you're careful about the software you install eg install it in a VM first and keep your browser up-to-date, you've certainly gone a long way to keeping safe.

I haven't installed an antivirus since Windows 7. YOU DONT NEED AN ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE!
But I have never seen a PC running fine without Defender! I would never uninstall it. The thought has never occurred to me. I don't even know how it would be done.
The best protection is common sense. An antivirus does NOT protect you from viruses. I have seen Pcs with 2 3rd party antivirus programs that still has viruses. There is no guarantee that you will never catch one. The worse thing is many antivirus programs are misbehaving the same as viruses. And some exploits are not even detected as viruses, no matter what you use. Downloading stuff is like opening your front door to strangers. Some times they bring pizza, sometimes they have a gun.
People who don't use an antivirus are not idiots. But it is important to say that they are measuring their risks. People who don't know what they are doing obviously need a safety net, but doesn't mean they are going to land safely in it.
Obviously this channel has all kinds of viewers and is meant to give helpful advices. Removing all protection is obviously not a good advice. But that doesn't change the fact that you don't NEED a 3rd party antivirus.
What bugs me more is that even people from my family use their browsers without any adblockers and suffer daily just as much as If they had a virus on their device. Its not like I didn't try to explain. Some people will understand and most just won't. And they will keep all telemetry on, all the antivirus protection on and all the ads on. Not everyone wants to live like that. Some of us like to surf the web and are not afraid of the water.

The only thing I don’t like is antimalware service executable uses a lot of CPU therefore, I disable on task scheduler.
