Apparently the script writers had considered San Woo to make it till the end because although he was so hated in this game viewers would have been enraged if he won even though the game is ultimately about survival.

This movie teach you that being honest and innocent just doesn't cut it. Ali did not have the brain capacity to match Sang woo and thats why he died. To survive, you have to be smarter than everyone else.
