"Should we go to Jeju together?"

Ok but like can we appreciate the fact that the minion….goon….whatever we’re supposed to call them, let her say her last words.
They could have cut her off but they didn’t, in reality their part of this too, maybe even not by choice, it makes you wonder if half of these guards even knew what kind of job they would be doing on the island 🤔

Idk it’s just a thought I had floating around in my head

They did this and Ali’s scene at the same time and I couldn’t take it. I watched it at 5am before school and omg was that such a sad way to start my day.

I’m gonna cry. They were basically besties. “Oh right, only one of us will get out of here” “Should we go to Jeju Island together?” “Kang Sae-Byoek, thanks for playing with me”

Her whole story was so sad.. So far I'm loving this show, because it brings emotions, not just a fun show to watch.. She had no purpuse in life, no goals, basically because of a horrible father that she had.. Really sad story this one :'(

that one dislike was the person crying so much that they couldn’t see and missed the like button.

See.. this scene was a lot more emotional when you think about it from the twos perspective.

Ji-yeong had lost her family, her freedom, and her will to live. She had lost purpose in life and didn't know what else to do. Yet, she still put on a smile and to save her friends the trouble, acted like it was all okay. Once the marble game came with Sae-byeok, she had come to terms that her life outside wouldn't be worth spending, even if she did have the money to do whatever she wanted. She would have no family, she'd have a hard time getting a job with a criminal record, and she'd have nobody to turn to. Knowing this, she chose to end her life to let her friend go on. Because unlike Ji-yeong, Sae-byeok had the thing she lacked. A reason to keep going. She let her friend go on without her and happily smiled. She was happy that she could help her friend live, even if it meant her death.

Sae-byeok on the other hand wanted to bring her family together. Her brother, mother, and life was depending on her. She had to get out of here and go help her family. But she genuinely didn't want to kill Ji-yeong. After they spent time talking with each other, they grew closer and became actual friends. So when they played the marble rolling game Ji-yeong made, she was upset that her friend would let her life go for her. Sure, she would've been a slight bit happy but after making better friends with her just to die... that would've been incredibly saddening for Sae-byeok. In the end when Sae-byeok is listening to Ji-yeong's final words, she wants to burst out in tears but knows that her friend wouldn't have wanted that and holds back, moving on forward trying to keep her composure.

can we talk about how raw the emotions are here? i always get a lump in my throat when i see her accepting her death but trying to maintain her smile. it hurts a lot

I’m a film student, and also huge watcher of many shows and movies. I’ve seen countless characters I love die on the screen. I think of myself as pretty impacted by the stuff I watch, but because of all the movies I’ve watched most characters deaths don’t hit me right away. This one here though, on my second viewing had me crying like a baby inside. The dialogue is incredible, and the performance in this show is its shining star. Originally, I thought I was just gonna be watching, more or less, a Korean version of Saw, and I thought it would be fun to watch before Halloween. Well, boy was I wrong. The violence is just simply, not meaningless in this show. Whereas in Saw, the old man just finds people who jack off or smoke weed and then he’s like “AGh! You’re a fuck up and now you’re gonna die.” This show actually built their characters up and didn’t use their deaths for horror alone.
