I'm just now realizing how well the introduction to the game was executed. Those in the audience who know/guessed what it's about could relate to the characters who look upset when they open the cases.
Others who had no idea what any of the shapes meant (like me) can relate to Ali not catching on. And having the announcer explain the rules right as Gi-hun opens his case and realizes he picked the hardest shape was perfect.

That's a great tip to let the candy melt from the sides surrounding the shape in the candy. This might appear as one of the survival tactics in the game series too.
