Thanks you unfa. YouTube recommended me your videos a year ago and since then I started to learn how to use Linux and make music on OSS. So far, I have an older PC running with Debian 10, a working FireWire Audio Interface and Ardour running which I compiled myself. Thank you so much for your videos!

Thank you for this video. I really thought a while, for which formats I shall write plugins. Finally, I made a decision pro LV2 - only. In your video you described why.

Thanks for another good video! I had a lot of the bits and pieces of this info floating around in my head but this helps tie it all together. I've switched over to Ardour recently from Reason and have been using a lot of the calf lv2 plugins. I'm still getting to know the plugins that come with Ardour. I do like some of the ladspa plugins too. I'm a believer in listening and not getting swayed by the visualizations but sometimes what sounds right doesn't seem like it should be right when I'm looking at the visual representation and it's hard not to be swayed by it.

I forgot... I also use only open source software and plugins but there are tons of free VSTs available nowadays so I use them with Vestige in LMMS (Wine required).

Hi Unfa, ladspa and lv2 are great open source format plug in for gnu linux systems. :)

Thank you! This video is pure gold to me. At the moment, I'm using LMMS/Vestige (Wine) with Windows Vsts (Linux Cinnamon 64 bit). As you know, Vestige in Linux can only allow to play 32 bit Vsts and not 64 bit (I don't know why). I tried to find a workaround by attempting to use Carla with native plugins (many are great) however, the set up is very complicated for me and I haven't found a helpful and concise tutorial yet. I will have to watch your video over and over again because you gave a lot of useful and important information which I didn't know (I'm pretty new to the Linux world. I started in June 2018). I forgot, I still don't have a midi controller because I live in Cambodia and for some odd reasons everything imported is incredibly expensive here so I have to rely on my laptop keyboard :-( but as soon as the sun rises again for my situation I'll get one!

Hi. Fantastic video. Very informative. Im currently on my way to getting the zynthian hardware that supports LV2 plugins. My question is. Where would you recommend that i could download LV2 plugins from a trust worthy site?

Also if i wanted to reproduce sounds from songs from 80s would LV2 plugins do this?

Thanks.
P.S. i have subscribed to your channel love it

Ok, I have to bookmark this video and watch it a few times to digest all the info. I have one question: Have you ever used Carla in LMMS? If yes, may I humbly request a tutorial on how to make the plugins work in Carla ? Apparently even Vsts are supported but somehow I don't really know how to make them work 😞 . Setting up Carla is also not walk in the park for me, I guess I'll have to rewatch your other video about Jack, Alsa and Pulsaudio (they often conflict with one another). Thanks and a hug! 🙌 👍 🙏

Hey unfa, I've seen and really enjoyed a few of your videos. I tried to get an lv2 plugin working with OBS today but couldn't get it to show up in PulseEffects. I'm new to audio stuff in Linux. I saw OBS has an unstable plugin for LV2.

would you mind making a video about audio connections and pipewire? I'm using ardour in arch linux and its somewhat troubleshoting

Wait, the VST3 SDK is dual licensed in GPLv3?! That's pretty nice, actually

I want to get into writing audio programs/plugins for use on raspberry pi, but where do I start?

how do i run native .so linux vsts? A lot of the free ones come with a linux version and it's just an .so file that never scans into ardour.

Does each distro store Ardour plugins in a different directory? I've been trying to compile the excellent looking LV2 plug-in Noise Repellent, but I can't get it to compile on Ubuntu Studio, so I tried downloading a zip and extracting it in the LV2 directory, it shows up in Ardour after a scan for plugins, but when I launch it, I get an error. When I search online, it appears where the LV2 plugins are stored, is all over the place depending on the distro? Is this true or did I misunderstand something, again?!

Reaper finally can run LV2 plugins flawlessly. 😀😀

Great demystifying video! Did you get my email about developing a plugin a few weeks ago?
