G'day, Arkforest here. I will be explaining why I use Ardour as a DAW and why I recommend using it over many other DAWs like FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and many others.

Today started using Ardour! Getting into it and creating music is a challenge. But recording works already. So my next drum covers will be recorded with Ardour!!! Keep on your work!

2:27 This is my absolute favourite moment. That split-second shade for Delphi. Just lovely.

I was huge on Ableton Live about 10yrs ago... This is refreshing to see.

Ardour has the most annoying and fiddly interface I have ever seen in a DAW. The general lack of feedback when anything isn't done the way Ardour wants it, makes it incredibly hard to actually do it the specific way that's needed. Utterly counter intuitive. It sucks.

Hey, thanks for the video! One question, if you will. Why do people even bother to choose? Like, I have Ableton and on PC, FL studios on Android phone. And garageband on iMac (favorite for on the go rn).

I have koala sampler as well as other synth apps and things. I am aware of open source, but why do we seem to collectively seem to think we have to be monogomas to one daw when different ones have different functions?

I think GarageBand works near flawlessly for getting the basic progressions and beats down. Koala makes things weird and loose. Ableton is a powerhouse with my push 2, but honestly, pretty underwhelming on the less live aspects and makes itself less approachable for casual recording. I mostly just use for mastering and want to learn to use it for live performances.

All 3 of these synergize well for me personally. But also just curious what's out there. Starting a harem of daws I suppose.

I am using opensuse by default, a linux distro, how about jack and rosegarden and alike?

Delphi is comparable with C++ for performance... Can be quicker for certain types of operations.

What is the best plugin you have used in Ardour for mastering? Like your favorite EQ, compressor, etc.

AUR made it easy to compile myself for free. If I end up liking it enough to use it more than a couple times, I'll send a donation their way. Thanks for the video!

I don't think Ardour is simple at all, and some of its features are very limited: for instance, it cannot be used to time-stretch individual sections of a waveform (you must edit the entire track or none!). And if a section of a waveform can be quantized, nobody to date has been able to share steps that work. The manual typically focuses on the 'what' and not the 'how', so it is utterly useless.

If you are able to quantize a section of a track, with the waveform visible (so that you can identify the start and end points), share the steps...you will be the first.

I got a secondary computer with Linux installed so having a DAW that has the same interface in both Windows and Linux is a plus for me. (read as: someone who wants to make a smooth transition to Linux only). 😁

I am a guitarist (mostly metal inspired by 16-bit soundtracks). I currently use freeware amp sims for my guitar amp needs for recording/tracking (currently an FL Studio user). Are there any LV2 plugins that can provide adequate guitar amp sims?

I had Ardour previously and it was ok. I now have LMMS which is also FOSS and which I'm pretty sure supports LV2. It bills itself as being comparable to or being a Linux alternative to FL. I don't think that I was aware of all of its plugins. I may yet again DL Ardour ( when I get more proficient with DAWs ). We'll see.

If I download Ardour from my software manager, is it a full version?

It would seem like developing plug_ins is still a wide open opportunity for the enterprising individual. What do you think?

Could you please write out the instrument sources that you found to be good and work on Linux with Ardour?
