If you soak your beans just add a tablespoon of baking soda to the water. This helps make the beans to cook when they are older. Also if you add a little baking soda while cooking it will de-fart your beans.

This is great because on unemployment, I don’t have extra money to buy any storage jars. Thank you!!!

I was introduced to vacuum sealing with a break bleeder. The tip of the break bleeder goes on the top and pump away. It is a manual operation by hand, better if you have no electricity for your food saver. I have not had a seal release on my dry good Mason jars. I learned this from Rain Country on YouTube.

To repurposed bottles, I add an oxygen absorber. When I'm finished filling the bottles, I use the saran wrap, put on the cap, and seal around the outside of the cap with duct tape to seal the air out.

Thanks for everything you do; I believe we all appreciate the sincere, knowledge-based information you're providing the prepping community. Although I've been prepping for several years, I almost always learn a new tip from your suggestions. I find your channel refreshing, especially since I've never once seen you behave in a condescending manner, or as though you were raised like a "spoiled little princess." Your resourceful & pragmatic nature is evident. You are filling a much-needed niche in the prepping community. Thanks again!!

Really enjoyed this video, after seeing one of your videos on vacuum sealing, I couldn’t believe my luck when I went to a German supermarket here in UK, and found the only remaining sealer for sale in the shop.

Reusing glass jars that are properly cleaned is not only practical for food storage, it makes the kitchen feel homely too when it's sitting on display on the counter.

I think it is important that everyone knows how to do others normal chores or jobs around homestead in case someone is down or unable to do their normal job. For example mama cooking important for hubby to know and kids. Also where stuff is..I am the shopper and in charge of storage but I label bx you never know.

I have a tip for re using the PET or PETE plastic bottles. To sanitize them, soak them for 10 mins (or longer for maximum solution contact) in a dilute bleach solution. Usually 1/4 cup bleach to a full sink of water is enough. Then let them air dry a few days to ensure they are completely dry. This will help keep everything sanitized and safe without affecting flavor or scent!! 🙏🙏💕💕💖💖👍🏻

You have put my mind at ease. At 69, I just don't cook much anymore. So, I bought a dehydrator and have begun drying fruits and veggies storing them in glass jars. However, I don't like the hassle, heaviness, and storage needed for glass jars. So, after listening to you, I'm going to give vacuum seal bags a try. That sounds doable. Also, I've started stocking my shelves with foods like: peanut butter, honey, tuna, etc. Too, I'm gathering ACV, elderberries, sauerkraut, garlic, essential oils, things like that to use as meds. Thanks so much for your help. All this is new to me. I have always depended on my freezer(s) to store my food.

Purchased the Sunglife vacuum sealer you reviewed and it works great. Debated for awhile about making the purchase but finally did it. After receiving I trained myself on how to use it for about 2 hrs.

My boys decided it was ‘too mean’ to skin a cat or kill two birds with one stone, so ever since they were little our expression in our house has been ‘feed two crows with one bagel’. Love your sofa, pillows, our beautiful flag! Why does the snow look so much nicer in your yard than in ours?!?

I don’t like oxygen absorbers either. I agree it takes on the taste and smell

I agree with not using milk jugs but I think if you have gallon jugs that held water as long as you make sure that there's no moisture in it would work. I've used clear juice containers to hold rice. Good to know about mylar bags. I thought I'd buy some but I won't now. Thanks for such practical advice. You are appreciated!
