the only problem with cryengine is lack of documentation

The CryEngine will always have a special place for me because in my view, it started what we have today.
Crysis and the CryEngine blew everybody's mind back in the day when it came out with it's ultra realistic graphical fidelity that at the time, the competition didn't come close to.

It was the engine to get and to be.
Sadly, it's been overtaken by better, comparable, usable engines and has lumbered(no pun intended) behind.
I hope it can one day rise again as the premium game engine.

I really liked CryEngine when I tried it a while back. They got everything right in the revamp of the engine that Lumberyard didn't get. Not sure how much faith I'd have investing in a long term career with it though, between flirting with bankruptcy, suing their former clients, over-restrictive EULA, and changing their business model 3 times in the past 5 years. It's a hard sell over a safe choice like Unity.

I would be interested in more CryEngine content especially C# scripting but in case you could do C++ content only or just level editing, even that would be interesting to me. I am very interested to learn more about CryEngine but in the past their license was not that welcoming, after their docs was not very easy to get started with I also did find their pipeline to import assets not so easy to start with in the past but now I just don't have the time to learn a new engine. But I could enjoy some videos so any content you can make is welcome. Just have some fun in CryEngine, make something, anything and share some videos how you did it. Thanks.

Its sad to see how a group of "trivial" usability features took CryEngine from the throne of the best engine exist for public users around ~2009 to be an engine trying to compete and working hard to be at the last cart of that engines express train after 10 years!!!!

CryEngine has always been "Hey, that's cool, but I'm sticking to Unreal" and continues to be. It's good, just not good enough to warrant using it.

I remember when they cancelled the indie competition (big funding Money if you win) when a team won and got nothing but a licence to this engine.

*CryEngine is the best game engine. Because of CryEngine, Crysis remained the best looking game for the longest time. Because of CryEngine, Ryse: Son of Rom, a 2014 game looks incredible in 2019.*

So we have:
* Unity for C# based 2D/3D Indie games.
* Unreal Engine 4 for C++ based 3D AA type of games
* Godot 3 for hobbiest 2D/3D games (basically free miniUnity)
* GameMaker Studio 2 for simple 2D games.

Why do we need CryEngine V again?
Yes - I still like Crysis 1 - 3 but do we actually need this engine? I'm very sad when I think about it that harsh. But I also trying to be real here...
P.S. Unreal Engine 4 VS CryEngine V.
Round 1!
FIGHT! :-)

2:14 .I don't think they mean Entity Component System as in ECS. That's what unity did but I don't think it's the case for CRYENGINE, but rather they would stick with the old system but with improved performance.

I think Unity is working on a visual scripting system. But there is Playmaker in the mean time

The reason crytek is so far behind. Is because of funding. They don't make games any more. There last game was crysis 3. Not alot of games are made with cryengine. Allot of games are made with unity and unreal. Popular games are still being made with the source engine. Like apex legends.

Cry Engine. Yeah, it was always a good game engine. If they haven't already, hopefully, they make an advanced, easy to use visual scripting feature, that's more advanced than playmaker and others.😃

Can you do a C++ tutorial where you show how to get an FPS up and running?

great video, why don't you make a long series on how to create a complete fps game on cry engine .it gonna be the greatest tutorial ever for this engine especially when it's you who did it.

I really like Cry but the problem is they don't support 2D nor Mobile maybe in 2020 they do something! but they are really behind! and another thing was CryEngine doesn't have easy exporting like Uniry or Unreal! until they don't fix these people will stick with more easier and versatile engines!
Another thing Mike, why you don't cover Buildbox? Buildbox 3D looked really cool! I know it's expensive and all but cool engine to cover!

With the recent news about Adobe, they NEED to get rid of Scaleform, and fast.
