This is good to hear — people really underestimate the importance of a relaxing and usable UI.

I remember when CryEngine was a big thing.
It even ran good while looking great on my old GT720

Unreal murdered this engine, their main selling point was their beautiful realtime lighting system but with UE5 and lumen Cryengine sadly has almost nothing going for it except for its much better performance. Hope that they can get back into the game with Cryengine 6

Man breaks my heart because I really wanted to see this engine compete. I wanted to get into it but it has almost no video documentation except for some stuff they have on their channel. Written docs seem dated. Hopefully they can find solid ground because truth be told the engine itself is beautiful and runs like a champ. Maybe I should learn more hardcore C++ and I can get into it

I don't why but I like cryengine more than unreal 5 . A Unconditional love.

They're working on cryengine 6 (or whatever the next iteration will be called) they did a whole talk about it in their channel

Honestly, I also honestly like their update policy right now—Cryengine isn't without flaws, and it sounds like they're addressing them before picking a real fight with Unreal and Unity. (Also potentially Godot and its offspring.) As long as they are legitimately working on it.

I could easily be wrong, but I'm guessing it's something on the corporate table holding them.

CryEngine was the first game engine I had ever used. It was my introduction to game dev. With UE5, there's just no going back.

Sounds like they are saving all the good stuff for CryEngine 6

I heard Kojima had the intention to release his Fox game engine for education or maybe free like Epic does. To bad Konami had another point of view

CryEngine was so cool back in the day. When I was considering learning game engine for my project I was deciding between CryEngine and Unreal Engine 4. I chose Unreal Engine and it was good decision.

All the engines that are popping out are evolving quite fast depending on backing and team size yet one of the biggest Engines back in the day is not evolving at all. I think it's safe to say that this engine is pretty dead and one update in 2-3 years won't resurrect it. There so many option right now with better documentation and with updates that keep up the pace with evolving hardware and technologies.

I actually forgot that this engine even existed

Regarding the "unreal killed this engine ..." comments, people watch the AAA demos of UE5 and think they can make similar games with it. But you should know that you need AAA content to make something similar in UE5 and for most hobby and indie game developers (almost) any engine (Unity, CryEngine, Godot) will be enough, they will never hit such limits where you need to use UE5.

Most people looking for an engine like this are going to go towards UE5 or Unity. CryEngine unfortunately doesn't have the backing that Epic Games and Unity have behind their engines. Especially with the release of Unreal Engine 5. UE5 is a game changing for A LOT of developers.

I'm assuming we're going to see version 6 with all the new bells and whistles probably shortly after Crysis 4 launches

Nice to see Crytek doing something and if any improvments for those that use this engine! hope it can compete with UE5, and unity!

Beside some financial issues crytek is or was having…the documentation was the real show stopper.
The Engine itself is really good, but the documentation was horrible. I don’t know if it still is, but a few years ago it was

I feel like UE5 kicked them off their seat a bit. They might try to steer towards doing deferred virtual geometry as well. I think that probably most next gen engine dev teams are kinda looking over their shoulder and going "huh... I think we need that".

this actually kind of makes sense if cryengine is undergoing a substantial rewrite, perhaps to make it more amenable to cloud gaming and massive multiplayer. that's one hole in the market that existing engines haven't managed to fill. imagine an engine that's designed from the ground up with scalable multiplayer service style gaming in mind. there is a lot of money in that genre of game, and so there are a lot of indie studios looking for engines that will let them build games like that as easily as they can make FPS games in unreal. it would kill.

Sad to see a good engine's dead state 😥
I tried it out. But community is much smaller than enough, which made me leave.
But such a great engine is dying for not being able to train much people. :(
What a wave it gave once
