America is not the greatest country in the world because of such amnesia. Gore Vidal was correct when he said that the US is “the United States of Amnesia” and that “we learn nothing because we remember nothing.”

You know what’s saddening is the fact that the people who support Trump’s project 2025, a portion of those people’s relatives fought in ww2 against the Nazis. Some stormed the beaches of Normandy. Some were dropped behind enemy lines to secure roads leading up to the beaches and destroy guns threatening the men on the beaches. Some sat in foxholes for hours in the Ardennes forest praying German artillery wouldn’t blow them to pieces. Some were tragically killed just as the war in Europe was coming to a close. Some fought not just not the nazis but the Italian fascists too. And some fought the Japanese empire in the pacific theatre. The imperial Japanese may not have been fascist on the level of their European allies (nazi germany and fascist Italy) but they were still a dangerous foe to fight against.

Is this why people fought in ww2? So that their descendants would go on to undo everything they did?
