Why does government fear transparency? Why is transparency in government so important?

There is always strong resistance by government at all levels for transparency in how they operate. This is a natural reflex of bureaucrats and politicians, and it is best to understand why it is so important to encourage more transparency, resist this effort to make government at all levels less accountable and open, and understand the motivation behind reducing transparency by the people who work in and for government.

Glen, your comments about government is spot on. As a former government employee I recognized your criticisms firsthand. I do think most of them want to do good, I like to feel that all folks have the greater good in their heart. Their issue is not so much them being incompetent as ignorant. Many of them have never worked in the private sector, and needed to be efficient.

The government agencies in Washington State that are difficult are DES, DSHS, AG for public disclosure requests. Iam trying to determine why AG office got hit with fines from a Federal judge for 100 million and then another fine for 200, 000.00. What could they possibly be doing to cause 100 million fines etc?

Though I'm going to watch the video in it's entirety I feel that the answer is that the only way to push their agendas, they've gotta try and keep the opposition/potential opposition in the dark.

I have a family member who works as support staff in a puget sound school district. They were shocked to see how many PhD holders work in the district and several at elementary level. They also have a community day before the school year starts. There they admit how they have “failed “ the students. Fortunately it was cancelled because of the smoke from the fires. My family member also told me about how the staff have their leftists agenda they push onto the public.
