Want to make your AMD Ryzen Laptop or Mini PC Faster?

In this video, I show you how to get the most out of your 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 series AMD RYZEN mobile CPU using an awesome application called AMD Tuning Utility from JamesCJ. This application allows you to up the TDP on your mobile Ryzen APU and in turn get higher boost clocks, stabilize CPU and GPU clocks, and in turn, make your laptop or mini PC faster and in some cases up to 50-60 percent gain! Use this tutorial at your own risk I am not liable for any damages that may occur from using AMD APU Tuning Utility or RyzenADJ, Please use at your own risk! I recommend using a laptop cooling pad and wall power when using this application.

As someone who just bought a Ryzen 5000 series laptop, I highly praise you!

Have you tried changing the slider from best performance to balanced and tested? Best Performance keeps the power at the CPU where as Balanced will allow the GPU to use more if required. This tip was on Level 1 techs. Only applies to APUs.

I'd say upping it to 20-25W is safer for daily use. This video shows that you can theoritically give 30W to those APU but you need a lot of cooling and also it can kill the VRM faster. Maybe if the app has an undervolt settings it will make it a lot more safer to push the CPU.

I really hope this stuff works on the Steam Deck somehow atleast when plugged in

Great video for anyone who wants to gain quick 30% fps increase. Two things I want to mention:
1) If you have single channel memory; don't even bother. It won't affect it on GPU performance. luckily i have 8x2
2) when i do anything above 20W with ryzenadj(the command line front-end used by AATU and alike), laptop jumps to 90C and throttles down to 400mhz. great job HP.
(3500U, hp 15 db-1068nt, if anyone cares about this cheap ryzen laptop)

For best result:
1.Ram must be in dual channel. Also use fastest supported ram. Ryzen CPU and GPU are heavily dependen on ram speed than Intel.
2.reduce CPU usage to 95% from 100. There by reduce CPU temperature and will help iGPU to boost longer.
3.increase GPU wattage between 25-30. Use 30W if you have a cooler. Or at least lifet laptops back side by 1inch from table for a 10°C reduction.
4.Under volt CPU so, that you don't need cooler any more.
5.change CPU thermal paste.
6.Try to get debloated windows 10 or 11 light
For better 1% low in games.Since most games run around 30fps.

so basically who doesn't know letter on suffix of processor means
H = high performance
U= ultra power saver
p = performance
g= graphics

AATU tutorial starts at 5:45

As of this writing, AATU has been superseded by Universal Tuning Utility.

UTU overheated my Beelink SER5 Pro (R7 5800H) mini pc and I just set it to Balanced preset. I set it to start at system boot now it abruptly shuts down soonest the preset is auto applied.

Update 1: I managed to close the app from the system tray before it applied the preset. I uninstalled it.

Update 2: It disabled my network adapter. It fails with a Code 10 - This device cannot start.

Update 3: I power cycled the mini pc by, shutting it down, disconnecting the power cable, holding the power button for 30s, and waiting for 10mins before reconnecting the cable then turning it back on. THAT WORKED.

Proceed at your own risk. I would suggest to stay away from the new app and stick with Ryzen Controller 2.6.0 Stable.

After watching your videos I did this bios change to my Lenovo Flex 5 with Ryzen 4700U and it did speed it up quite a bit, I did not need to use the AATU app since the bios change alone works for my needs . Oh I also did change to thermal paste to the Kingpin thermal paste just to be on the safe side as well. Thanks

@ETA Prime Thanks for the video! I'm gonna test it on my R5 3500U HP Pavilion 15 once I get a cooling pad. Max advertised TDP should be 35W but I'll go with 28W first and if I feel comfortable enough, I'll up it to 30W. I want to be cautious since my laptop is the only PC I currently have and I can't afford anything else at this moment. I can run it off the wall all the time without caring about killing the battery since it's pretty much dead and at this point I'm no longer interested in getting a replacement but rather a new laptop/desktop PC.

I bought a ryzen 5 5500u kaptop a week ago this helps!
Update : I don't think this is necessary for a r5 5500u processor i mean its fast enough already

Seems pretty nice but I would still just sick with the ultra performance mode for the LENOVO laptops, don't want to push it too hard

I tested the APU Tuning Utility on my new ryzen laptop but it turns out my laptop has this feature built in.
The Asus software my Vivobook came with does almost exactly what this utility does. 7-10 watts on Whisper mode, 15-18 watts on balanced and 30 watt burst / 25 watts sustained on performance mode when plugged into the charger. CPU got up to 90 C while stress testing it. This is great tech for lightweight gaming.

Just be careful -- not all VRMs will support and survive this. Also, not all laptop cooling systems will be able to fight extra 7C-25C of the heat.
IMHO, Lenovo and other cut TDP in order to use cheaper components for VRM and cooling. With low-end TDP these cheap components are just fine, but there is not guarantee they will last with 50% boost.

just bought an Omen 15 with a 5600H and 3060, this was exactly what i was looking for. Thanks a lot!

I had a 4500u with 32gb but a low tdp.
It was a pavilion laptop.
It was impressive.
Then I finally found a pc in stock and that was the end of the 4500u,
I soon realized that laptops are for work.

I really wouldn't recommend 30W on Acer/HP laptops with 45w PSU especially the cheaper ones. Just use the default premade settings. With a laptop cooler, it might be okay but from testing an Acer, the PSU was running at a very uncomfortable temperature.

man ive been waiting for a while for someone to make a vid on AATU, it's about time people switch from ryzen controller

Just got a 4500u laptop to upgrade from my 1035g1 gateway, yet performance was worse which depressed me. Then after buying dual channel ram, still nothing. Then I come across this blessed video and now have literally 85% higher Geekbench scores. Damn, thanks for this!

using "Ryzen Controller" since long (now at version 2.4.1) i do advise all to lower the max temps a little to not bake your chip over time...one problem only, are you all sure the CPU VRMs are designed to deliver more than the factory limit of every laptop ? because if you burn them you will burn the CPU as well and more
