I dont usually comment at all on yt, but damn this is some terrific timing.
Just now at 26 I am taking 1 year off to figure out what path exactly I want to take in my life. I have been a selfthought selfemployed programmer the last few years but my interest switched from things to people and I struggle with deciding in which direction to invest, uni etc…)
Great video as usual! Your channel is awesome! Much love from Germany ❤️

I majored in physics to figure out what I want. If you're mathematically inclined, physics is great for that purpose because it is so general. If you expect a specific hard skill that you can sell to an employer, physics is not the right choice. You'll have to develop that on your own. If you do that it's a great degree.

so interesting you spoke about self-teaching - I got a maths degree, but now teach maths, bio, chem, physics and psychology, because I taught myself the curricula.. I have a lot of imposter syndrome as I didn't get a degree in all of these, but like you said, a lot of my degree was just irrelevant faff, and we learn so much more by starting a business and building from the ground up.
I feel like I'm just being a perpetual exploding head emoji watching your vids :P

Damn. I hadn't quite thought about uni this way. My issue is a lack of clarity on what I wish to pursue as a career. Would you still suggest a uni degree then?

Having been an undergrad at the typical age, and also starting a degree at presumably around 22/23, do you have any advice for getting the most out of a degree if you are starting it late?

“Johnny and I would only hire someone with a degree because of all the other attributes - shows up on time, smart, consistent, able to persist with hard stuff” … seems lazy to make this binary decision. As someone who dropped out of an architecture degree and has since worked 12 years at one company, and worked my way up, that mindset would exclude people like me - and I expect it’s because of self preservation and because you can make that decision…. which sucks. I would argue that some individuals who don’t go to uni have to fight harder because they don’t have a degree to fall back on. It doesn’t make them not smart, not committed etc. Sometimes there are other factors. A degree is valuable, no one is saying it isn’t, but it doesn’t jeopardise yours if you consider hiring someone without one.
