LVH -> muscle get stiffer -> not enough relaxation -> not enough blood supply -> kidney sense this -> activation of renin-angiotensin aldosterone system -> salt and water retention -> symptoms of congestion and fluid in the lung (SOB, fatigue, orthopnea, PND )

I was diagnosed in hosptial with LVH yesterday. Left ventricle muscle wall is 15 mm. Normal is up to 13 mm. EF is 70% which is good. Everything else is ok in the heart.
I will see my doctor next week so that we start with Ramipril or something alike. Funny thing is, my blood pressure at home is 130/80, so not dangerous at all. I am asking myself how I got this horrible 15 mm with this kind of normal blood pressure.

I truly apreciate this video. My son was born with a coarctation in his aortic valve and he has aortic stenosis and was just recently told he has mild LV hypertrophy. I wasn't sure what that meant so I appreciate your video. Thank you!

I've been diagnosed with LVH, almost a year ago. With an MRI. Not because I had issues, more a regular check up.
But recently (and actually that started years ago) I feel some chest pains with exercise (bicycle riding), and even with normal activities. I am 70 now. I don't have high blood pressure, never had.
I did serious bike racing from age 28 to 42. In the 80s I had very good VO2max figures, and a rest heart rate of 40-45.
I believe LVH can be caused by regular big physical efforts, like in bike racing and training. But it's not mentioned in the video.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thank you Dr Gupta, this is very informative. For years I left my high blood pressure unattended and I think it has damaged or weakened my left ventricular. I get fluid build-up in my legs and now find it hard to breathe even when I'm just walking. I never smoked, don't drink much alcohol and exercised but STRESS has got me. I just hope and pray its not to late to improve my heart.

I’m gym daily fit. I had an ECG ( normal), normal blood pressure. Had an echocardiogram. No LVH. But my ejection fraction is 75%. Normal to low resting heart rate 57. Stress test next week. I know I have 25-30% LAD plaque. 4 years ago my ejection fraction was 64% but upped my exercise intensity. I’m 64.

When I was 20 years old, I was diagnosed with RHD and was told that my max age might be 30 if not treated well. Now I'm 24 and had my follow up check up. My ECG result today says I have LVH and yeah that brought me here. Anyways, will visit my Cardiologist ASAP.

Dr, does Magnesium supplement help in heart muscle health ? If so which type of magnesium ?
Also is it good to have CoQ10 supplements if diagnosed with LVH grade one Dystolic dysfunction?

My husband was just diagnosed today w/LVH, not sure what they’re going to do as I wasn’t there. He didn’t tell me till just before he went to bed. Probably didn’t want to worry me., His dad died suddenly at thevage of 52 of a pulmonary embolism. My husband is 61, 5’2 170 lbs..he has been on high blood pressure meds for years. He is also on cholesterol meds as he has a hereditary high cholesterol...at this appt they also apparently discovered something w/his liver. Heis having more blood work done and a follow up in 3 months.. but now I’m wondering if he should participate in the up coming Ride for Rosewell? He normally rides the 34 mile run..

Thank you so much. I've been trying to educate myself by reading but this was so much easier to understand.

I was diagnosed with mild lvh in 2015. After controlling high blood pressure, I have been diagnosed with normal lv now.
Doctor what might be the cause of youth hypertension? I am 30 years old at present. So I was basically 27-28 when I was diagnosed with lvh.
